Welp, just stopped by the local Wal-Mart with the family and there it was; the infamous X360 kiosk!
There was a swarm of young children around it and the bedlam became too much after about 10 minutes, but here are my initial observations:
One of the kids was playing CoD2 when I walked up. 2 words jumped to mind: Silky Smooth. Silky smooth framerate, silky smooth animation.
The resolution was very sharp and the particle effects (smoke) were amazing.
I did notice a fair amount of aliasing, but honestly I was having a hard time concentrating on graphics items because CoD2 is just a very intense game! I found myself being drawn into the action instead of critiquing textures, AA, etc.
This game is not my cup of tea but it seems to be a very solid title none the less.
Next kid steps up to the controller and fires up Kameo. Very impressive.
Still shots of this game don't do it justice. This game just looks like bucket loads of fun! A ~6-7 yr old boy was playing the game for the first time and seemed to have no trouble figuring out the controls. He morphed into that big fury white character with the spikes on his back. In one battle, he was attacked by 4 orcs. He picked up one of the orcs and beat the stew out of the remaining 3 with it! All the kids howled with laughter! Good stuff.
There was just a ton of stuff going on. Dragons flying overhead, Birds flittering around, Orcs all over the place, etc., etc., etc.
Again, ordinarily, this game wouldn't be my cup of tea either. Erm, I'm buying this one for the kids! (And if they just happen to need dad's assistance once in a while, so be it!
) Seriously though, this is a game that's fun just to watch someone else play, IMO.
From a technical standpoint, Kameo's strongest suit is just the sheer variety and amount of stuff going on at any given point, IMO.
I did notice lots of aliasing on the title character, Kameo, oddly enough. When she morphed into something, it looked much better. The NPCs seemed better too. Weird. - Hopefully something that will be improved upon by the final build.
Kiosk setup:
Like the other Wal-Mart kiosks being discussed, the LCD screen was mounted very high. It was definitely setup @ 720p widescreen. The console itself was just stuffed inside the glass case of games and was laying slightly askew on top of piles of Xbox games!
Again, I only saw these 2 games and didn't get to spend much time with either.
But I saw enough to know that I can't wait to get one of these puppies home!
