The first X-BOX hardware left too big a hole for pirates and modders even though the media was already a bit propriety. The protection of the media was cracked from within than being extracted on a PC DVD reader.
Apart from propriety media, they shouldn't leave much unnecessary stuffs outside of the chips this time. The firmware should be on an ASIC than an external flash ROM. And there should be some encrypted authentication between the chips when something need to be verified.
