WTF is up with nVidias Z-buffer?

Have you played NOLF or AVP2?

Hehe actually those two are the only two games I own using the Lithtech engine. Never experiences the problem everybody was talking about in AVP2. :)
Never had a problem in NOLF except that it was extremely jerky (and is on my Ti4600 too, not an fps or vsync problem, rather some mouse setting)

I'll give the 28.32s a spin later on :)

(wouldn't apps programmed for a 16 bit buffer only take advantage of it up to 16 bits?).

The Zbuffer always goes from 0..1, so the application doesn't need change to take advantage of the full Zbuffer resolution.

According to the benchmarks I've seen and replicated on my own machine Hyper Z is disabled when running 3x FSA or more. 2x will not disable it. (I think Quality vs Performance also had some impact on the matter)

What it really is that the Radeon can't use HyperZ when the rendered in a resolution large enough, not sure about the exact limit though. When you enable FSAA you'll get higher internal resolution and potentially go above this limit.
