Wipeout HD [PSN]

To be able to play your PSN games you bought and downloaded, your PS3 often has to be connected to the internet and to be logged in to PSN.

I've never heard this before and I don't think it's true for any game. Warhawk is installed on the HD, you just need this disk in the drive.

I thought almost all of them? The ones that support online ask if you want to sign in for online leaderboards or online play, but you don't generally have to be signed onto the PSN to play.

A little bit searching on google: http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=133804

Not true?

Don't know for sure. Wouldn't download Gran Turismo 5 Prologue from PSN :D.

Not really. I don't think any but perhaps a couple of PSN titles require internet access to run. Stardust, PJM, PJEden, that other shooter, Calling All Cars, and others I've played, all run fine without. WH needs an internet connection, but then it's online only! I don't know about GT5P.

I'm pretty certain you'll be able to buy Wipeout and run it from your PS3 without being logged into PSN. You likely won't be able to share. The upside to this is that it's only $20. It's a third the price of your usual high-quality racer. It's half the price even of the PSP version, so how can it be considered expensive?!

I didn't know about GT5 Prologue either. Could be true, I did hear security was a bit stricter on that one - they wanted to prevent the game-sharing with this one that is possible with many other titles, and apparently copied the system they used for Warhawk. I bought the BluRay version of that game myself. I do think you should be able to play these games while offline, so I do agree that's a bad thing. As far as I know, though, GT5 Prologue and Warhawk are the only two that use this, but maybe it's good to keep track of games that use this system. Quest for Booty is also available both online and from disc, would be interesting to find out if that one is.

Perhaps the PS3 game sharing thread on neogaf could be a good source for this info.

Thank you for your replies.

I don't know about GT5P.

Neither do i for sure as already said. But then why should they lie on the other forum. It looks like it's a PS3 specific forum and the thread was not a flame war thing ;). So obviously it could be true.

I'm pretty certain you'll be able to buy Wipeout and run it from your PS3 without being logged into PSN.

Would suck if not . But how can you be certain about that, if it seems, that it's necessary to be logged into PSN to be able to play Gran Turismo 5 Prologue from PSN?

Maybe there is someone here who at least has Gran Turismo 5 Prologue from PSN and can clarifie this ;).

You likely won't be able to share.

That again is something that is a little bit more understandable from the developer/publisher standpoint.

But then again, what exactly do you guys mean with sharing? If you say you won't be able to share, do you mean you only will be able to download it once and have to pay everytime you need to download it again in case you lost your hdd data or whatever? Or what do you mean?

The upside to this is that it's only $20. It's a third the price of your usual high-quality racer. It's half the price even of the PSP version, so how can it be considered expensive?!

Never said it would be expensive. Just that it would be better if it would be released on Blu-ray Disc, too ;).

Also could imagine that most users would prefer a Blu-ray Disc version above the PSN version and would be willing to pay not much but at least a little bit more for a Blu-ray Disc release, just like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The Blu-ray Disc version of this game is a little bit more expensive than the PSN version. But just a little bit. Would be a little pity if WipEout HD won't be released on Blu-ray Disc, too.

Don't know about such statistics, but even could imagine, that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Blu-ray Disc sales were better than Gran Turismo 5 Prologue PSN sales. And not only because the Blu-ray Disc version was bundled with some PS3 consoles.

Anyway, are there such sale statistics?

Some of those screenies look bland, but the ones that look good look amazing.. especially those with city-scapes in the background.

I may have missed it, but is there a date yet?

no date yet. The rumor is Sept 25th. A couple sites said expect an announcement about release date soon on the PS blog.

Actually, I'm not so sure. The reason for 'certainty' was because PSN games can on the whole be played without an internet connection. But of course at the higher price it'll likely be treated like GT5P.

There's no limit on number of downloads, at least not according to any T&C I remember reading. If you've bought it, you can download it. The game sharing thing allows you to install your downloads on 5 different PS3s. This means I can have my friends set up Users on my PS3 with their account details, and anything they buy, I can download onto my PS3 and use in when logged in under my PSN account. We can then play online on the same game using one purchase. For example, the trophies I have in Stardust are in a game a mate purchased which he shared with me. Sharing also seems to extend to content, as I have the option to download Guitar Hero packs from other accounts.

This sharing is extended to virtually all titles. WH was the first game with it disabled, where you can't download to a different PS3. Actually I don't know if you can't download to a different PS3 or can but can't play from any but the purchaser's account.

Actually, you can with Warhawk if I remember correctly, but you have to wait for 24 hours after activating the game on a new PS3 or something like that.

I wouldn't worry too much about having to be logged into PSN whenever you want to play Wipeout. I have 16 (+/- 1, not sure) PSN games right now and each one of them can be shared and played offline (including the bigger games like Siren and Fatal Inertia) I'm fairly sure you can't share GT:prologue, but I'm also fairly sure the legitimate owner can play it offline just fine.

Thank you for your reply.

How do they control this 5 shares per game thing? How do they know that it isn't downloaded to more than five PS3 consoles? Is PSN or whatever checking serial numbers of the specific PS3 console when downloading?

Is every game that is shareable restricted by this five consoles thing?

And what if one user out of those five deletes the game from his console after a while? Will PSN know about that and know that there are currently only 4 users having installed it and allows another user to download again? Or how is it handled?

Thank you for your reply, too.

It's not really about worrying anything, but just prefering a Blu-ray Disc release.

Seems to be though that the only thing that could be worried about after this talk here could be, that there won't be a Blu-ray Disc release :D:eek:;).

I'm fairly sure you can't share GT:prologue, but I'm also fairly sure the legitimate owner can play it offline just fine.

There should be someone here on this forum who could answer this question, shouldn't it :D?

Maybe someone will clarifie it ;).

It'll be something like that.

Apart from WH and GT5P, yes AFAIK. And I repeat, that goes for download content packs too like GH tracks. It's actually a very good deal!

And what if one user out of those five deletes the game from his console after a while? Will PSN know about that and know that there are currently only 4 users having installed it and allows another user to download again? Or how is it handled?
I don't know. I don't think anyone's really tested it.

user, it isn't 5 shares per game. It is 5 activations which includes the original user themselves (that means 4 activations to give out). When you game share, you have to activate the PS3 with that game. So for example I have SSHD and decide to share with you. You would get log into my account and dl SSHD. Then you would activate SSHD on your PS3 which means I am down to 3 activations since both me and you activated. If you delete the game, PSN does not know to give back one of those activations. You need to deactivate the PS3 itself, so that I can have 4 activations again. Sorry, if this sounds confusing.

Thank you for your reply.

It's not that confusing, sounds understandable.

You would get log into my account and dl SSHD.

So you have to give away your complete login data including password and so on to grant other users access to your account?

You need to deactivate the PS3 itself, so that I can have 4 activations again.

Okay, thanks. So there is an option to deactivate it again?

But I can erase and download the game I bought an unlimited number of times or can't I (assuming I don't switch PS3s in the process) ?

Lol, I was fairly confident that I had the whole download thing figured out, but your post confused the hell out of me.

Yes, you can download the game an unlimited amount of time as long as that PS3 has already been activated.
