i think the idea with the wimote memory could be essentially party-targeting. is not so much that the wiimote could not keep settings for many games - could be done, as long as every title is aware that there may be prior data stored and sores its data together with some search key. but if we assume settings from only one game can be stored upon request, then that becomes a party-targeted profile system; instead of going in the game menu and changing named profiles from some menu each time a new player joins, the controller you play with, the wiimote, is your profile. that could be really work for parties, as long as eveybody uses their own wiimote and bother to get their profile downloaded to their wiimote in advance.
