I picked xbox however if the consumer occulus comes out then I wont get a console this year.

Still to much unknown about the ps4 . The way it looks (the ps3 was huge and ugly) and its internet services (the ps3 ones were poor compared to the xbox ) I also do not like the pos controller. IT was bad when I first used it on my snes and its only gotten worse the more sony has added to the design.

The xbox is what most people I know will buy and so with my non pc gaming friends I will be able to easily play games with them.

Oops, I lied, when I voted I'll get them both. This generation, I got all three (wiips360). So I assume I would eventually get all of them...well maybe except for the WiiU.

However, I mostly likely won't get either of them until later. Mainly because:

1) For the XboxOne
a) The most appealing aspect is the full integration with my TV...however, I'm currently China...so everything must be in form of digital. They haven't shown NetFlix running side by side with games...:)
b) China's Great FireWall. Connecting to xbox live here in China is spotty. As more and more XboxOne feature depends on me being connected, this will be a problem.
2) For the PS4
a) It's a PC...with great exclusive list, which I can defer until their price drop. There still many great PC games that will keep my busy for a while.

Of the two, which one would I get first? Probably XboxOne, mainly because of the Kinect 2.0. It's an experience that I can't get on the PC right now. I'm sure MS will make it available for HTPC sooner or later....

I upgraded my PC rig with a 7970 about a month ago, but I think I'm going to sell it and wash my hands of PC gaming. Blasphemy, I know, but I don't really play enough PC games to really be worth it, and when I do, I want to play on my couch in front of my 60" HDTV with 5.1 surround sound. It's a pain to set everything up so that it works flawlessly.

Also, I'd like to prep myself for an eventual retina iMac.

Yeah this tends to be the most overlooked aspect of PC gaming and probably one of the main reasons that consoles have been so successful.

The Xbone features won't work for me, the MP is still paid , in fact every feature is behind the paywall and even If I pay, they won't work for me.

After Ps2,3,psp and Vita , I wanted to switch ship this gen, but...

I will buy the PS4 as it seems to be going the steam way everyday with sales, free MP, great IPs and most of all they are letting Indies into the party open heartedly. Also, Sony has confirmed Free to Play games will be allowed and will not be behind a paywall. And it has better hardware than Xbone too, which only has 'teh Cloud Power' for every question asked and which won't work for me, again  !

So, PS4 .......for everything it offers and doesn't put behind paywalls !

For my TV, I will just use my Remote  ! But then I don't really watch TV anyways.

Hey Sony, here I come again ! You didn't have to impress me at all, MS just shooed me away !

A question for those that choose the last option:

Where do you find the time to dedicate to 2 consoles?
No really I have time only for one gaming machine so teach me your secret, please. ;)

Maybe it´s a bit early to choose an option, because of all the things that aren´t known yet, but the general approach taken by MS doesn´t catch me. I´m from Spain and the deals with NFL make no sense to me; I understand obviously that they will be really important in the US. Appart from that, the whole TV thing that is so tightly embraced by the company, their effort traying to go beyond the usual "console for gaming" setup it´s impressive for sure, but it´s not the thing that I´m personally looking for when I have to decide the console I´ll buy next.

I´m really devoted to hardware stuff and maybe I´ll buy both in the long term, but from the pure hardware perspective I feel more at home with PS4. The focus in One is obviously wider; the sensor that empowers kinect should be a piece of technology really interesting. But the tradeoffs made by MSoft just in order to make their portfolio of services better don´t seduce me.

Nevertheless, I´m sure that it will sell really well in the US, and that´s a big thing for MS, obviosly, so... I must be a bit demodée.

There are always times at which games are coming slowly, at those you can just pick up the games you want on whichever system.
You don't spend more time playing games, you're just playing games you want to/the best games of each platform.

Not ready to vote yet as I want to see more of the living room things Microsoft has planned for the Xbox One.

I will commit to one thing however. So far, with what Sony has shown, I have absolutely ZERO interest in the PS4. It doesn't fulfill my requirements of giving a better living room experience than my HTPC.

I will only purchase a next gen console if it can fulfill that requirement. And so far, the Xbox One is the only thing that is showing anything promising in that direction.

Especially when I think more games will feature on the PC as well. I wouldn't be surprised if both Sony and Microsoft have some "exclusives" make it onto the PC but not the competing console. For the X360/PS3 generation only Microsoft did that. But I'm expecting Sony do test the waters with that as well.

This is why I'll be happier if I just get one machine, I got both consoles this gen and it was annoying prioritising which exclusives to get or which version of a MP title to get.

I voted PS4. Of course, it was always going to be the PS4, because I've been with the PlayStation brand since the first one. Sony would have had to do some serious misplaning to lose me as a potential customer (like going too much after the casual crowd). Ironically - if the consoles (and subsequent reveal event) had been reversed, I think I would have voted the other way around, so I am not a blind loyalist.

I have to wait and see I'm leaning towards ps4 because I dont have proper internet and they have said internet wont be needed but I'm still a bit sceptical.

its almost sure ill get a PS4 at one point, but right now I couldnt care less about any of the nextgen consoles. thanks to ps+ my PS3 backlog is getting unmaintainable.

At this point, I speculate those most interested in the console as a games machine are interested in PS4, and those more interested in an entertainment box are picking XB1.

Edit: Oh, and AlStrong's giving up consoles! No more Live! butt-kickings for him, I guess. Myself, waiting and seeing. PC has a lot more value, Sony always offers great games, and I don't game too much these days anyways. Seems hard to justify the expense of a box that gets so little use.

I'm not really interested in buying any console because I have a PC, BUT, the PS4 is by far the most interesting, it would definitely be my choice... more powerful, you don't need to pay for XB live, no Kinect, Sony exclusive games...

That's most likely to describe me. :) I don't expect PS4/XB1 generation to change the ratio of games played on PC to games played on console for me. :)

I think so too. The only issue I have with that is - my entertainment is already well rounded with the equipment I have. I don't need to be able to voice-control anything. I have a receiver and a multi-functional (learning) remote that lets me easily control anything at the press of a button. Sure, browsing the internet while watching might be cool - but anyone who has bought a phone in the last 2 years has a gadget capable of doing exactly that within reach. And if you have a tablet, even better.

I just fail to see why suddenly people who were never interested in the Xbox brandname before suddenly will be, now that it offers more features centered around the TV. And to those that are interested in the Xbox brandname, are mostlikely gamers. And in that department, it just doesn't seem all that focused on that (not if a lot of computational resources are being devoted to live switching between interfaces etc).
