What music are you listening to right now?

Chimaira - Sp lit

Whatever people throw this band into, I will still say that they are harder and more aggressive than 99% of death or black metal bands out there. Even there new stuff, while stripped down, still carriers that aggressive sound, which I love.

Mastodon - Crystal Skulls.

From their latest, this is neither another Remission or Leviathan. This is utter unique from one of the truly evolving bands out there right now. Where Remission was waves of extreme heavy hitting, and Leviathan a unique flow of guitars and drums. Blood Mountain is a extreme combination of both with hyper progressive style.

If you're a fan of past Mastodon efforts then you might hate it the first time you listen, but it will grow on you and grow quick. You'll soon love how the music never takes a smooth transistion and always keeps you on your toes, and the clean vocals are done with taste and actually add to the music.

You're an idiot as far as heavy music goes, but whatever
They're a nu metalband gone metalcore, they'res nothing great about them, unless you dig shitty metalcore bands.
There are no death metal or black metal bands that aren't heavier then they are, NONE.
But sure, low tuned simple riffs= brutal heavy :p

I'm listening to Necrophagist- stab wound.
Excellent technical death metal :devilish:

No, I tend to just not be a classic death metal listener and think that all other genre's suck. I'd also say a band like Maudlin of the Well blows any death metal or black metal band out of the water in creating a creepy or decent atmosphere.

Chimaira isnt "brutal" heavy because of low tuned guitars, they're heavy because Mark Hunter's vocals are aggressive, they're heavy because their music conveys it, and they're heavy because they dont have to rely on telling demon folklore to create any sort of mood.

Chimaira was never nu metal to start with. Limp Bizkit or what the hell ever is nu metal, Korn is nu metal, Chimaira is not. Its amazing what time you hit the scene can have you thrown in to. SOAD is a nice example. why the hell they ever got the nu metal label was always beyond me also.

I like that Donald Fagen Cd too, thanks for reminding me, haven't listened it for ages, must put it in my CD player as soon as I get home.
Those two tracks are my favorites too.

Currently I'm in love with the Scissor Sisters I Don't Feel Like Dancing, but I know that love will not last long :D

You're wrong, but I dont wanna argue atm.
Lets just say you're a bit to the "left" as far as metal goes.
Ps, "this present darkness" is pure nu metal low tuned chug bullshit and that they play now is one tiny step above nu metal.
(metalcore).
