Amon Amarth- Live For the Kill

I picked up "Twilight of the Thunder God" for $11.88 at Newbury Comics. Two disc set including a live DVD. Pretty sweet deal, indeed. This was the first time in over a month I actually found a CD I was looking for in there. I feel like I'm cursed. Listening to obscure death metal bands is like searching for the goddanm Holy Grail, sometimes. AA is classified as "Viking Metal" though. While I was watching the live DVD, actors came out on stage and had a sword fight, clad in viking armor.

    I lol'd.

This is just sheer brilliance, even in the world of post-rock where basically nothing goes wrong.

A friend introduced me to Amon Amarth recently, really enjoyed them. "Viking Metal" sounds about right I guess :)

Inon Zur- I Am the One

Today, I purchased the Dragon Age soundtrack, as soon as it went on sale. It's truly remarkable music, most of which I actually don't recognize from the game, probably because it's being drowned out by dialogue. I implore ever DA:O player to get their hands on the CD, provided you enjoy classical/new age-ish music.

Yes it is beauthiful. I remember thefirst big music appreciation when I talked to Sten when he was caged. So beauthiful music it was almost overwhelming.

I captured this from the start menu UI.

Some other beauthiful songs from Youtube (DAO).

    Opeth- The Funeral Portrait

Blackwater Park remains my favorite CD of all time. I remember the days of Martin Lopez on drums and Peter Lindgren on guitar. This album was truly Opeth's Mona Lisa.

    Opeth- Reverie (Harlequin Forest)

I'm learning to play this on guitar. I really enjoy playing the bridge, at 3:30, of this song, it's great fun.

Perhaps not exactly the same style but you might want to try Wintersun and Ensiferum. Two really good finnish bands. Try f.e:

I've heard Wintersun before, but no more than one song. My friend has all their CD's, I should ask to borrow them.

Latest additions to the family iPod has been stuff like Asia, Dan Fogelburg, Nino Rota's "What is a Youth" from the 68 version of Romeo and Juliet, more ELO, a little Santana, and some Yes.

    Hurt- Et Al

One of the most underappreciated bands I know of is Hurt. Although, their latest CD was trash, Volume I and II are amazing.
