What music are you listening to right now?

Dethklok- Thunderhorse

Man, the best thing about "Metalocalypse" is the music, while really funny and obscenely short, is actually REALLY good!

They're making a full length album with full versions of the songs. Its a collaboration between the creator of the show and Gene Hoglan, should be awesome.

I'm listening to Cynic "Focus" again, they'll be playing near me in a few weeks and I already got the tickets too! Yes!!! Never would have thought I'll get a chance to see my all-time favourite after 13 years since the band stopped working

As I Lay Dying- The Darkest Nights

Hard to believe these guys are a Christian metal band. Well, that's not true. I like Demon Hunter a lot too, and they have a similar sound.

edit- Btw Skrying, I'll definitely be picking up that Metalocalypse album. That sounds immensely cool.

Devin Townsend - Solar Winds

From Ziltoid the Omniscient, its basically a parody of power metal in a lot of ways. It tells the story of a alien who comes to Earth for the best cup of coffee or else he will destroy the planet, well Ziltoid doesn't like the coffee so guess what, hehe. I won't ruin the rest of the story for those who buy the album. I'll just say that its actually pretty funny but also some good power/death metal mixture in musical terms. Townsend used the Drumkit from Hell on this release, for some reason the results are not nearly as good as they were on Meshuggah's Catch Thirty-Three but its not bad. Kinda disappointed in that aspect since Townsend would have easily been able to get some legendary metal drummers to do the work.

Ohh, the next song after Solar Winds is Hyperdrive, freaking awesome song. Took me by surprised I think this is the closest Hevy Devy has done to Ocean Machine since Ocean Machine, its just simply amazing, love it.

Just back from Frankfurt - the Cynic show was THE perfection. I even could meet the guys and let them autograph my guitar and make some photos, kickass!!! :D

They're writing new material, so there could be a new record soon

Opeth - When

Oh man, this next album should be so massively interesting to see how Opeth has handled Peter Lindgren leaving. I have faith though that Mikael will continue to lead the band even further. Unlike the loss of Martin though Peter was a writing force and often had the melodic influence that really brought Opeth together, Peter also tended to play the more technical pieces. Fredrik Ã…kesson's past in Arch Enemy certainly doesn't have me jumping in joy when it comes to the progressive nature of Opeth though. My fingers are crossed though and I think another musical progression for Opeth would be nice.

Just to restate it, Opeth is so fucking kick ass.

Martin Lopez was always my favorite Opeth member, aside from Mikael obviously, he drummed on my three favorite albums, My Arms Your Hearse, Deliverance and Blackwater Park. Apparently he suffers from panic attacks and blood poisoning which was probably the reasons he ended up leaving. I'd be curious to know what he's doing now. Everything I've read about him trails off after his departure from Opeth. I can't even believe how many changes the band has been through. There are no residing original members aside from Mikael. It's amazing they've even lasted this long. Death Metal doesn't grace the airwaves of terrestrial radio, or at least around here it doesn't, so having a fan following the size of Opeth's is incredible.

I'd be curious to hear the new sound. As long as the writing stays the same, there's no way it could ever grow old. I'm confident Mikael knows what he's doing in terms of finding new bandmates. Correct me if I'm wrong, but almost every album they've ever released has featured someone new, and to be honest I can't even say any of their albums are particularly bad.

wow, thanks for the tip -- i've never been a big devin townsend fan but this is pretty good stuf. lots of juicy metal parody moments :9 my fave by far is "color your world". but yeah, some live drumming would have kicked ass.

for my part, i contribute some butt rock! doo rag - Barn Porn Star & Guitar Wolf - Hoshizora Jet

Townsand is a good idea, now just watching the concert shaky cam of SYL. Gene Hoglan is officially THE God of Drums.

Motley Crue - Kickstart my Heart.

I normally hate any and all kind of rock/metal/rap/whatever, but this was the one song that I absolutely love. Heard it in the SCARFACE : The World is Yours trailer, and just f*cking loved it. I instantly went and checked out some of their other songs, and strangely this is the only one that's any good. The rest of their music is just so...generic random rock/metal trashy shit. :???:

Does anyone know if Motley Crue made any other songs as cool and catchy as Kickstart my Heart?

Can't say I've ever made this recommendation before, but the style you describe was made a career of by the band Poison. Most of the album "Open Up and Say Ahh" will probably be to your liking.
