What is a good 42" full HD right now to buy?

No clue on budget Capeta, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind paying for quality. Not looking for the absolute top-o-the-line, but a really nice 42" with a great bang/buck ratio.

Does that help at all?

Check AVS for the Westly 42+ threads they have. I have an older one but it a true 1080p pannel and accepts 1080p on its inputs. The older fireware on my model did have some sparkels when trying to do 1080p via HDMI. Do not know if the newer sets have this issue. But it has a really good bang/buck ratio.

I'd take a gander at the Panny Plasmas. They've always been one of the better sets you could get for the money as well.

Here is the buddy...

Budget is like, 2500$, im really outdated on TV knowledge, which are the Pro/Cons of Plasma vs LCD?

Im in search of a good >= 42' display, Full HD, all the bells and whistles, possibly with a kickass contrast-ratio, hate LCD's non blackyness of black :p (does it depend on contrast? :p)

Thanks diggy for having opened the thread b4 me :p

If you want CRT like deep blacks, there is no competition for the new 8th gen Pioneer Plasma's.

Full HD on a 42 inch is only nice if you're going to sit within 1.5x or below the screen size.

For $2650ish, you can have the 8th gen Pioneer 5080 plasma delivered to your door. (not from me :))

What about the new Panasonic TH-42PZ700 (42" FullHD Plasma)?
A quick google showed it to start at about $2k.

Dunno if that model can match Pioneer (who really build great plasmas) wholly in picture quality, but usually the Panasonic plasmas are quite good.

There are some Samsung LCDs with superclearpanel tech. I dont know the equivalent model in US but here a link from Brazil (portuguese language) http://www.fastshop.com.br/product.aspx?src=home&product_id=SGLN40M81BXXAZ&dept_id=531

Here a good review of the Samsung: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Samsung-LE40M86BD/

There is also some very good Sony TVs.

But if budget is not his problem what about a 103" Full HD Panny plasma?

Err, 153k is a bit stretchy...

Nobody answered this though, what's the best technology, Plasma or LCD ? Advantages / Disadvantages ?

You'll need to goto the stores and actually decide that for yourself.

My take:
Plasma have better blacks, good deep colors and a very natural picture. They are generally a bit more pricey but that's coming down quickly. Glare is still an issue if you have a lot of reflections coming in.

LCD's has super bright whites but their black levels suffer. They're not prone to glare much. They produce a sharp picture but to me, it often looks over processed and fake.

Personally, I haven't seen a LCD comes close to a top end plasma for a clean natural picture, yet.

Are there actual 1080p plasma sets? It's been awhile since I've checked, but it seemed like the native resolutions weren't actually 1080p.

That looks to be a very sweet Plasma, I think that topped my list of what i'm looking for later this year for a TV, over the XBR and Aquos.

There are now, the Panasonic mentioned above is a full 19x10 resolution HD.

I have the Samsung that`s in the review. It`s not perfect (not the best SD picture) and has some firmware bugs in older models but with HD material and for gaming it`s one of the best LCDs.
