What if the PS3 was NOT to implement a Broadband engine?

Randycat99 should be inducted as "best cat" of B3D?

What sort of CPU, GPU, bus architectures do you think would have been the logical successor to the PS2, as well as make the PS3 a competitive force in the next console generation? Would it be a more traditional architecture, or can you think of an even more radical design? Would EDRAM still be involved?

For those who think PS3 should be executed in an entirely different manner, here's the chance to speak your mind!

An ideal PSX3 would have been a MIPS processor with a 4x4 matrix unit attached. The T&L should be off-loaded to GPU. Basically it should have been like a super-PSP.

...

CPU - A MIPS variety with a 4x4 Matrix unit. 2 Ghz 64 GFLOPS/s
GPU - Licensed from ATI or nVIDIA. embedded back frame buffer.(4 MB).
AudioDSP - Same as PSX2 unit.
RAM - 512 MB
Disk Drive - Same as PSX2 unit. With additional encycription protection.
I/O - wireless lan built in. ethernet built in.
