What I think is that nvidia is done with the NV code names and its time to release a new architecture. Remember a long time ago 3dfx held Immersion and it told developers about ramapge. It was supposed to have an external T&L Chip, 40 bit color I think. It also had newer VSA tech that let you put multiple chips on the board with minimal performance hit. It also had some photo realistic graphics it promised. Is it time for the T-Buffer coming back and the M-Buffer beign utilized!!!

I think Nvidia is hinting at the next Voodoo I type graphics.

Actually, IIRC, it mostly told investors about it.

Having more chips is generally more expensive, as long as you don't get above a certain amount of transistors. Of course, I'm generalizing here, but an external T&L chip is hardly anything to brag about.

I remember 48. It was fixed point, too. Nowadays, we're using 64, 96 or 128 floating point precision.

Yeah, I sure as hell hope adding chips to the board doesn't make it SLOWER

Both of those technologies can be made more efficiently with pixel shaders and RTT or other systems.

I think you're hallucinating. What did you smoke, exactly? :)

NV48 and 50 cancelled? what?

anyway, forget Rampage, what about Fear?

AS I understand it 3Dfx had a tiler in the works.

Gigapixel had a tiler in the works, supposedly a very good one. 3dfx bought Gigapixel before being bought off by nV. No idea what happened to the technology, though.

Why did he state this? I'd like to learn more about those itens. Any links please?

Thanks...

The Gigapixel tech is owned by Nvidia, though it may no longer be up to date enough to turn into a commercial product.

I now rename this thread "Let us ex-3Dfx fanbois gather up and dream of what we'd like the next-gen nVidia part to be"

Actually it was 52 bit color (4 x 13 bit).

M-buffer was a multi-sampling unit for AA.

Fear was supposed to have featured Gigapixel technology, combined with many Rampage features. It was supposed to be a 60 million transister part at the time, along with Sage 2 for the geometry (which was somewhere around 20 million transistors iirc). Both appeared to be rediculously powerful products for the time. Think FX 5800 Ultra performance in DX8.0 applications in the time of the GeForce 3 Ti 500.

I am not sure why NVIDIA didn't finish up this product, but then again in Fall of 2001 they were taping out the GeForce 4, and they probably didn't want to go with a multi-chip affair due to partner pressure and overall economic reasons. Not only that, but what was ATI offering at that time in comparison? The Radeon 8500, which the GeForce 3 Ti 500 was able to compare to quite well.
