No info? No data? nada? niet? :(
Mr. Hofstee should has been spoken about CELL architecture..

ciao,
Marco

They dont have formal proceedings and noone from the press seems to have bothered to attend, so unless someone from inside the industry tells us what was presented we will never know ... the fact that the presentation was renamed a while back probably means they changed their minds on what they were going to present though. Could be a delay, could simply be Sony not wanting Hofstee to say anything on Cell.

You can find the official site by digging a bit. I did a month ago. Reading carefully it is apparent that the presentation has nothing to do with CELL at all.

There is one "possible CELL related talk" in the near future. And that's probably a very remote possibility. SIGGRAPH in August:

COLLADA: An Open Interchange File Format for the Interactive 3D Industry
Sony Computer Entertainment
Wednesday, 11 August, 1 - 3 pm
Hall G, Room 2

Alias, Discreet, and Sony Computer Entertainment introduce COLLADA, to dramatically improve today's content pipeline with an open and extensible, collaboratively designed interchange file format that enables existing and future tools to scale up to the exciting challenges of the next wave of interactive content development.

I say remote because it just so happens that they have been talking about using CELL workstations for the "visual content industry"(what do you call it), not just for games. It just happens that the presenter's contact email indicates that he hails from the playstation "department"(what do you call it).

BTW there seems to be quite a lot of game-related topics in this year's SIGGRAPH. Check out the official site.[/list]

Yeah...looks promising for the Cell workstations.
8) What else could it be?;)

Edit: *Warning, pure speculation* If Alias is partnering SCE above, we may eventually see Alias Wavefront Maya on Cell workstaions? 8)

Discreet (3DSMAX, Mental ray, and also AutoCAD (Discreet belongs to Autodesk) is also quoted. :D

With both Alias and Discreet on board - that just about covers all the major "visual content vendors", right? Who else is there?

We may not see actual hardware shown at Siggraph, or even any reference to CELL/PS3. But this seems to have potential to contain more "revealing" info than anything so far. We are talking about actual application here, not some obscure rumour/patent. At the very least, it can be a gauge of the PS3's dev library/environment/pipeline, and it may be possible to make educated guesses from the info.

*Assuming this will be CELL/PS3 related of course*

An important player such as AVID/XSI.

Agreed. My worst fear about IBM/SONY CELL based workstation is the lack of good software..

Ehehe :)
