Hi, just a request for feedback on my shiny new web-site.

I am interested in feedback on the layout and functioning of the site, as I have only just got it set up there isn't much in the way of content.

I have rolled my own content management that should make it easy to add new pages to it. I would like to know that it is working fine.

It is basically going to be a mishmash of things, with no special theme. Small projects that take my fancy, useful info on several topics.

Feedback here, by mail or in my blog is welcome.

You might want to add a lot of extra categories for easier browsing, unless you plan on leaving the pics on the other site, I guess their categories work fine...

It will be mostly random stuff. Small projects, random musings etc.
I have actually got a Hierarchical relationship in the content system, I can define a page to be a child of another page, and in that way it will only show up in the links if you are viewing the parent or a sibling.

Not sure where you got 32k photos from, I guess it could be the naming system that flickr uses.

Hmm, not sure what you mean. Do you mean that it is not working at all, or that the layout looks different? If the former then I don't know what is going on as it works on both browsers for me. If it is the latter then I think that is because of a cellspacing difference between IE and Firefox, I have wondered about it myself, thanks for highlighting it. It is damned annoying that you have to code web-pages differently for different browsers, it is not like tables are special features of a browser, they have been around for quite a while!

Ah, interesting. I didn't even look at the source for that page, I simply exported my firefox bookmarks and added the file as it came out of firefox. I will sort it now.

And since I got distracted and was way to late with the edit, I'll add it here instead: Validate your HTML template, using an appropriate DOCTYPE, and add non generic TITLE elements to your CMS. I'd also prefer not using tables for layout (doing it 'right' in the first place usually saves a lot of hassle later on), but for a simple site such as this one dealing the whole CSS box model may be more bother than it's worth. Especially if you're not going to update the layout often.

Re the use of tables. I did look at using CSS to control the layout (and use CSS for much of the page). Using CSS doesn't allow you to get the fixed width auto height layout (It will size to the longest of the two columns), at least without a lot of messing around (I saw someone using a javascript to resize one of the columns, which just seems messy to me). I decided that a table would do exactly what I wanted so why bother using anything else!

Well I figured that goes without saying
That section will basically contain dishes that I like to cook (or more accuratly, can cook and like to eat), beer and wine reviews/recommendations, and some local pub/restaurant comments.

differencies arent big, but visible.... also, dont call your header -> banner , thats wildcard used by most AdBlock users who have Firefox....
when you use *banner* in AdBlock it doesnt show any pic with word banner in it.....

as i said, differecies arent big and most people wont notice them... heck they will be on different browsers anyway, but they are there.....
