We now have e-books on PSPs!!

Hey mckmas8808, would you mind consolidating all these PSP-related posts under a single PSP thread? Title it, "mckmas8808 Loves PSP" or something. :)

Thanks.

whats the big deal?
Maybe it's not a big deal, maybe it's not a handheld console war thing, maybe it was just posted here as a small bit of info, not as a flamebait for DS vs. PSP

Sheesh, can anything be posted here anymore about PSP without some people starting to defend the DS for no reason.

I am just acting as some counter balance. You see yes, it is just a piece of information, but it puts the PSP in a favourable light without letting people know that there are also other alternatives. Person A might think that this might be the best thing since sliced bread and that is just because he is not well informed. I aint flaming noone, and plus our poster has started 6 threads about the PSP in the last few days so.........

Yeah I think somebody is really out of control with the separate PSP threads. There should be one thread stating that PSP could play MP3s, one thread for WAV, one thread for AAC, one thread for JPG, one thread for BMP, one thread for GIF, etc. assuming PSP actually supports those formats.

There should be a message board spam blocker.

This isn't a debate, it's information. We're not advertising to each other on this forum. A guy posts some info relevant to owners of PSP, and you feel you have to inform them that it's no big deal, GBA has it too. That seems totally misplaced to me. If someone ASKS 'Can GBA do this?' then give your info. If someone says 'PSP can do this and no other handheld can' give your info. If people make false claims or are misinformed, correct them. But in this case he's just saying something is possible without in any way comparing/contrasting/criticising the competition.

Well stating that GBA could do it too is also information, but you don't see anyone here creating whole separate threads for GBA ebooks do you?

That's because ebooks on GBA isn't contemporary news. We don't go writing threads about the capabilities of the Sega Master System or ZX81 either

The PSP is just out in the US, and mckmas8808 is providing information about adding to the functionality of this handheld console. Whether he should have split the different functions into different threads or not is besides the point - JackBleedingEyes response was not a reasonable reply to a reasonable and relevant piece of news. A fair response, discussing the use of ebooks on handhelds, would have been...
For those that have a GBA and not a PSP, you can also use ebooks by using such and such a software <link here>
Informative and relevant, instead of being competitive and antagonistic which is what JacksBleedingEyes was.

PS3 is a new console too, but you don't see people talking about how it can play DVDs...

Funny how ebooks suddenly becomes headline news with its own dedicated thread because PSP supports it while ignoring the fact ebooks have been available on many other devices for years and no not just for GBA either.

This is the "Console Talk" Section so obviously I won't talk about the e-books in other devices. I didn't know e-books were able to displayed on the GBA, so thanks to the person that imformed us. PC are you scared that people might actually use the PSP for e-books, because your arguement is pretty bad. So you don't want us to tell anybody what the PSP can do beside games, movies, and music?

I don't see the problem with multiple topics. If the topic isn't interesting, it will eventually fall back while the more popular ones will stay on top. It's better than talking about various different aspects all in one thread and have multiple users debate different things all at the same time.

As for this feature: I really hope Sony will enable hobby programmers to program some nice little apps for the PSP (perhaps from the memorystick) - I could see great things come from it. I'd surely would love to program some nifty little PDA programs that I may would like to use while being on the go with my PSP. I'm sure there are others - just look at the PDA market and how many freeware are available!

Doubtful that sony would let people write distributable programs for the PSP especially since they could do it themselves and make money or another software company could. Also mckmas8808 should start another thread to justify the purchase of his PSP.

With PSP's battery life being what it is, I don't think reading an eBook on it is the best way to use the limited time you got with it, but maybe that's just me. ;)

I'd guess eBooking takes the least amount of battery as it does not need that much processing power.
Don't know, but maybe if you read a eBook for a couple of hours, you'd still be left with several hours of mp3 playing, or a couple of hours gameplay time.

Oh, and I've heard the battery can be recharged!

I don't see anything wrong witn this thread. The PSP was just released in the US .. many of us are just playing with it for the first time, so obviously there will be talk about the many features and possiblities for this great device. So there's some positive spin for awhile .. big deal. That's just normal. This thread will eventually fall off the chart and nobody will talk about ebooks anymore. Someone at some point in some forum probably pointed out the ebook feature in GBAs and its time came and went. GBA also has videos, and mp3 and television adapters, but the buzz isn't about GBs right now.
