Visiting Japan in January

I haven't been to a maid cafe in Tokyo in 7 years I think so that's why I said that. These places probably open/close frequently as well.

I'd say set aside 5000 ~ 6000 Yen or so. Not a lot in the grande scheme of things but that is a pretty decent meal or three evenings of all you can drink so it kind of depends on where your priorities are.

Of course if you can afford it/get in what you really want to do is go to a oppai bar. Wrong enough to be fun but not so wrong that you won't want to tell anybody about it hehe.

haha thanks, 5000-6000 yen is a lot but i think i can set aside that much for maid cafe :D :D

oppai bar? first time hearing it, gonna google it later. But from the name... its boob bar?
i dont think i can go there as i'll have 3 girls with me.

anyway, do you have a recommendation for hotel/lodging?
currently we are thinking airbnb, but i heard its a gray business in Japan?

With a bit of luck you may come across the very rare yellow snow it's a delicacy in japan you should try it ;)
Wait yiu mean it's a food people are selling or it was just natural snow, yellow colored, and edible?

So I can just pick it up off the ground, and eat it

Don't eat the yellow snow, man... lol

(I assume you're playing along with the ancient joke. :D)

Finally I will be able see and touch snow.
have a good trip and enjoy it as much as possible. You are a lucky guy, Japan is amongst the countries I admire the most in this world, beautiful country, beautiful looking people, imagination galore, although sometimes a bit of a lonely society I guess.

Thank you! Hopefully I can experience something truly memorable :D

Although I think I will faint when I come down from the airplane, and set foot on the land of rising sun bwahaha

Heya! Turns out we are visiting Osaka! :D

Why do you want to go to a maid cafe if you got your own harem with you? ;)

airbnb or similar is probably best. It is a bit of a gray area but that won't affect you. Please do remember walls in Japan are very thin. Even in concrete buildings the walls separating apartments usually are not much more than some metal stud so the person living next to you will hear you.

I'm sure you are a decent guy but the apartment next to my GF's place was rented out to tourists for a while and those fuckers would always make a ton of noise late at night, babbling in Chinese, tobacco stink etc.

So please mamoru the mana- and keep it quiet in the evening.

Hotels are expensive, especially if its 4 of you and I don't think you wanna go anywhere near hostels. It works but its just a pain.

Love hotels sometimes advertise for "long stays" as well and usually at a cheaper rate than hotels. Kind of funny when you consider you'll most likely get a better room. That might be fun as well for a night or two if you have the chance.

Internet cafes are another option if you want to please the inner nerd, some of them even come with showers these days.

Capsule hotels are a kinda fun one time experience but not recommended for women (some don't allow women and if they do it might not be "safe").

Edit: Since you're going with girls they might enjoy staying a traditional ryokan. Especially one that has a real onsen (not just a shared bath).

I don't know what your plans are but if you might want to add an onsen trip and stay in a decent place for a night. Not cheap but you'll get good breakfast and dinner and it will be a fun and relaxing experience.

Around Osaka you can go to Arima onsen. Kinosaki onsen isn't too far away either (2 or 3 hours I think) and looks pretty if its snowing.

our plan were simple, use the lodging just to sleep.

haha love hotel for legit rest. but really? its much cheaper than a hotel? even cheaper than airbnb?

thanks, just googled, and there's actually a lot of arima onsen it seems. Any recommendation?

ryokan looks like too expensive, but mainly we are confused where we could book it. is there an app for ryokan?

I'm not sure about the price, I haven't had to look at that for a long time but airbnb will definitely be cheaper.

As for ryokan, I think you can look at hotels.com or just google ryokan + area.

Two years ago I took my GF to this place: https://ssl.gekkoen.co.jp/. I think I spent about 60.000 Yen for the two of us with a one night stay but that was for a fairly good plan.

Looks like they now got an English site as well. https://ssl.english.gekkoen.co.jp/yugetsusanso/. Cheapest one night stay is 19.000. You can also find the one day (no stay) plans on the top right next to the FAQ button, it is very hard to spot. 3.800 Yen gives you lunch in a private room and access to the onsen for a few hours. If you look at the Japanese site they actually have a whole bunch of different plans not on the English site that also include dinner etc. as well.

Make sure you look at yugetsusanso, the other one is for their modern looking lodgings.

I'm going to Japan as well (Tokyo and Osaka - including Kyoto) next year! But its between May and June. Keep the conversation going, might be interesting to me as well :D
Oh, and I'm going alone so maybe could call out to Maid bar you are talking about (but then again.. maybe not, don't want to meet the Yakuza :/ ).

The buffet on yugasusanso, does that mean it allows me to eat anything I want on the table?

Maids are cute, yakuza are scary.

But meeting yakuza in maid Cafe? Hnm

Agreed, but I've never understood the tentacle prn thing.

Some japanese people seem to have fairly extreme sexual kinks, that's kinda strange to me at least, because japan generally isn't as rigid and constipated about sex and nudity due to christianity not having poisoned their society over the course of a millennium with imagery of how women are harlots and temptresses.

I suppose it could have historical reasons due to the way society was structured during imperial times (which wasn't that long ago still), or maybe it's just that some people live too shut-in lives and don't have experience with women in general.

I'm a single nerdy guy myself, but, you know, I don't have a person-sized humping pillow which I pretend I'm married to and whatnot.

hey not all people have the luxury of cute hugging pillows or the luxury of making friends with girls.

anyway, i just watched "doctor jin" drama and it seems sex, "courteous/escort service", prostitute, etc have unique perspective in japan culture.

maybe @tongue_of_colicab can shed some light? and recommend some places? (obviously, for research puspose, its for science!)
