Wow, it actually looks quite realistic as well - given ears are fairly translucent in terms of light. That or Drake's ear flush when he's murdering people..

Wow mirar chaqueta de la tela cuando se dispara.
GAF spotted this:

Muzzle flash causes SSS on Drakes ear

The amount of details no one will ever even notice due to the fast action is pretty incredible. I guess that's where photo mode comes in.
Those overly detailed stuff for 3rd person game... probably they have nice LOD system to accomodate that? or they just brute force it and have the high quality detail all the time even when the camera is in 3rd person?

I'm pretty sure VFX_Veteran's protestations are the ludicrous amount of illumination coming off that muzzle flash. There just wouldn't be enough to light anything, let alone cause the ears to glow.

Muzzle flash is a lousy light source for dramatic effect. Hollywood even adds extra burn to make it more obvious. Clean, smokeless powder that burns efficiently doesn't produce much flash. So 'realistic' Uncharted ain't. Unless you qualify your statement with "the ear illumination looks pretty realistic in terms of how an ear would behave if someone was stood shing a torch at it." ;)

"Firing the 5.45x39mm round out of the AKS-74u without the muzzle break on"

I think the ear effect is a side effect of ND using cheap but good looking (by game standards) SSR during gameplay. Similar effect can be seen in the PSX footage when Nate is lit from behind at an angle

It's definitely a stylized effect and i wouldn't exactly call it realistic but i think it looks great.

Also it's nice to see a serious improvement over the E3 demo, which frankly looked quite goofy at times

I was really talking about how the ears glow in reaction to the light, rather than the light from the muzzle.

But I'm happy to swap "realistic" for "kick ass"! As London-boy said, one of a thousand details you'll never notice while playing because you're trying to nail that guy over there.

Oh yeah i definitely understood what you were going for, just have to make that clarification for VFX_Veteran

Regarding that gif, the animation transitions in that gif look so smooth, the way he removes the holster turns and aims at the same time is incredible but i think i did spot a bug in this one, missing texture? :p

It's hard to tell what is from the current build with the footage being mixed with 2014-2015 showcases of the game. Wish they didn't do that, it's not that hard to record 2-3 minutes of footage from the gold build, is it?

Edit: At least we get to see their occlusion technique which looks very nice on foliage!

As much as I'm looking forward to U4 I can't ignore Ratchet & Clank which is out in four weeks. Then the True CGI claim nonsense can begin :yep2: Until until people start comparing the game to the movie. Then they'll be tears, you mark my words.

Judging by the few snippets of the R&C movie we've seen thus far, it doesn't seem to be up there with today's state of the art CGI movies, though. Pixar it ain't. Not by a long shot. It's obviously still gonna look better than the game, but the two really do seem fairly comparable in terms of visuals at this point.
