Troy

True, but at least they called it "Troy" rather than "The Illiad". Homer got better treatment than Heinlein in "Starship Troopers".

I have seen the trailers....if I've to judge from those, man it sucks! If Homer had been still alive, he would have forbidden such a mis-use of the name "Troy"...
I doubt anyone would take Homer serious, if he was to make such a stupid statement. Troy is a historic city, Homer just wrote a book about a battle that took place there...

Anyway, having seen the movie, and read the book, I am not disappointed in any way, though I would have preferred more history, over alle the fighting, I think it is a god movie.

Homer (perhaps) wrote THE book about it: I assume that if he didn't (or whoever did in his place) write the Iliad back then, there wouldn't be any "Troy" film today, or any real information about the historic city for that matter. He created the myth, that somebody else exploits today...

What's wrong about it? Everyone does it, only they have to pay the author or his/her family for royalties. Any film based on a book. And who are Troy's execs going to pay for the use of the Ilyad??

What i would REALLY love to see is a movie (trilogy) based on the Divine Comedy. Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso. A trilogy. Visually there is so much potential it's not even funny. Shame that it would be Hollywood-ised and KILLED in the process, but hey it's worth a try. If LOTR came up the way it did, i'm sure someone with a brain could do wonders with the Divine Comedy...

The "Divina Commedia" is a poem that doesn't get along well at all with cinema, I believe. It's incredibly complex and multi-layered.

Definately, that's why i said it would be "hollywood-ised and KILLED" in the process, all the political layers would not survive since very few people would understand them anyway.
Not sure how many people read it, but i did, and the Divine Comedy is one whole political critic disguised into a very visually impressive poem, which would look great on screen.
But every book and poem has multiple layer that never make it into the movie, it's only normal.
Many movies just take the first layer, the superficial story and translate it to film, which would kill the DC. Still, it does have potential.
