I really don't agree with any of their list. FYI, it was:

10 - Akuma, from Karateka (Apple II)
9 - Goro, Mortal Kombat (not even a last boss)
8 - Phalz, from Phantasy Star One
7 - Yellow Devil, Mega Man
6 - Mike Tyson, MT's PunchOut
5 - Ganon, OOT
4 - Psycho Mantis, MGS
3 - Ugh Zahn III, Serious Sam
2 - Bob the Goldfish, Earthworm Jim (????)
1- Machine Gun Willy, Double Dragon

Pretty lame.

10 is a bit much, so what are everyone's top 5 bosses? Supposed to include style, difficulty, and creativeness in the ranking..

I'd say:

5 - Anubis, ZoE 2: he regularly kicked your ass throughout the game, but once you got Zero Shift, it was ON!!! Plus, he looks cool and the catapult fight was quite the marvel
4 - Area #3 Boss from Rez (Running Man): The guy who's blocks form to make a humanoid shape that runs away from you. The music was slick, and the fight was pretty intense flying down the tunnels.. but once it turned into a 'Running Man', like every hair on my neck stood up in excitement.
3 - Zeromus, Final Fantasy IV hardtype: What he lacks in style and presentation, he makes up for in difficulty. Probably the only (pseudo) turn based fight that can be labeled 'intense' and 'sweat-worthy'.
2 - Septhiroth, Final Fantasy VII: Pathetically easy (like all FF bosses post V), but the presentation was totally unmatched. From the Opera/Symphony track (One Winged Angel), to his Meteo summoning sequence, I couldn't possibly think of a more grandiose and epic last boss fight.
1 - Cyberdemon, DOOM 1: I can't believe this didn't make the list, letalone wasn't #1. Any oldschool gamer remembers the CYBERDEMON. Players would navigate a maze of pillars only hearing the 'clunking' metal feet get louder and louder, and once they turned a corner would be greeted with a rocket to the face. Definitely classic, hard, stylish, and creative. Hopefully id will give him a makeover for Doom 3.

edit: Special mention should go to the Hawker Harrier/Solidus fight in MGS2. I really got into that, it felt like I was right in the middle of True Lies ;)

Thoughts? Your list?

When I think of cool bosses, first how they look always comes to mind, the WOW factor that it gives me.

in no particular order, and I don't know all thier names.

Dark Gannon- Zelda OOT
Final Boss in the original Contra on NES
OmegaPirate - Metroid Prime
Final Boss in Resident Evil
Pretty much any Boss fight in Metal Slug
Pretty much any boss fight in any Castlevania game
The blind tenticle creatures in Halflife
The Boxer whos pants fall down in the Simpsons Arcade game.. I know
its juvenile but I always thought that was cute.
And I always liked the dragon in an old arcade game called Black Tiger.

My most memorable Boss Battle would be from "The Bouncer". Part of the reason is because on your 3rd run through the game, the final confrontation with Dauragon C Mikado, is slightly different. You have to defeat him three times, unlike the usual 2 on previous occasions. He also deploys his special attacks which is something he held back on before. This all came as a pleasant surprise when it firsted happened, so I always look back at this confrontation with fond memories. The first time you meet Dauragon, in the game he fights you with only one hand because he is so tough. The second time you meet him he fights with both hands. After you have defeated him he takes of his jacket, because he is now serious about the fight. When you defeat him again, he removes his shirt to really get down to business. The camp dialogue that goes with all these exchanges is a real hoot. I never really worked out a winning strategy to beat Dauragon in the final confrontation, there is a lot of luck involved in my experience.

1. ikaruga 5th level boss.

2. running man boss from Rez.

3. rtype level one alien Giger ripoff.

4. rtype level 3 ship (I guess the entire level counts a 'the boss').

5. metal gear REX form MGS1 (twice).

6. last boss in FF3 (can't remember his name), cheapest boss ever.

1. Bowser from Super Mario Brothers. Not because he was all that difficult, but because when people mention "Boss Fights", nothing else really comes to mind, except maybe Dr. Robotnik from the Sonic Series and the Contra and Mega-Man bosses, but those would be far off in the distance behind SMB.

Gannon from the first zelda . Dang man who knew the sword wouldn't work .

The boss guy at the end of ultima 4

got to agree with them on the phantsy star boss

um I have to give props to the last boss in dragon warrior. You kill him only for him to change into a dragon. It took 16 trys for me to kill him in his first form by the time i got him to change most of my team was dead .

Um the boss in the simpsons arcade game .

Thats really it on my list .

Memorable boss fights:

Panzer Saga - second last boss
Panzer Orta - last boss
Shenmue II - roof-top fight in Kwaloon
Skies of Arcadia - Zelos giga & final fight
Starfox Adventures - final space fight
Metroid Prime - Omega Pirate
Phantasy Star Online Ep 2 - final boss

Some that come to mind are Chrono Trigger, and I must say I enjoyed Crusader: No Regret's final boss too :p

Edit: oops I cant read

1. MGS2 - On European Extreme Mode
2. Mario Bros - King Koopa's Castle (Bowser) on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc time around
3. Streets of Rage 3 - Final Boss
4. Contra - Final Boss
5. Legacy of Kain - The Boss who stomped and you had to be lead
6. Gradius 3 - Final boss
7. Ninja Gaiden 1 2 & 3 - Final Bosses
8. BattleToads - The Electric Fence when riding the air-scooter
9. Shinobi - Final Battle
10. Rygar or Onimusha - (PS2) Final Boss for each

In no particular order:

PS2 Games:

Final Fantasy X - Sinspawn Gui (just because it happens during the hellishly impressive Operation Mi'ihen)
Final Fantasy X - That one boss with the six platforms around it, in Zanarkand's Cloister of Trials, right before Yunalesca
Kingdom Hearts - Sephiroth

GC Games:

Metroid Prime - Meta Ridley
Pikmin - That cool Mantis thing
Star Fox Adventures - the dude you fight while flying in the lava place, that was cool

PS1 Games:

Metal Gear Solid - Psycho Mantis
Final Fantasy VII - The whole last battle
Final Fantasy VIII - Seifer (round 4, when Odin dies and Gilgamesh appears. That was cool.)
Final Fantasy IX - Ozma (@#$%@#$%#@$#!$##%@#$#!!!!! Too much luck involved - but still really fun trying)
Xenogears - That one big spikey thing where the Yggdrasil turns into a HUGE Gear
Castlevania SOTN - Galamoth when you're Richter >:)

Saturn Games:

Radiant Silvergun - last boss
Nights - Pick one

N64 Games:

Hybrid Heaven - Those two big monster things, which you don't technically *fight*
Paper Mario - The Koopa dudes! ^_^
Star Fox 64 - The Train on Macbeth

SNES Games:

Chrono Trigger - Giga Gaia
Final Fantasy IV - Zeromus
Final Fantasy V - Gilgamesh (gotta love his dialogue)
Final Fantasy VI - Kefka
SMW2: Yoshi's Island - Pick One, but I especially love Raphael the Raven
Tales of Phantasia - Dhaos (Round 2, in the Present)
Bahamut's Lagoon - Alexander (last boss)
The Secret of Mana - The Mana Dragon

...that's all I can think of offhand that I found memorable enough to... um... remember. ^_^;

Spinning around the opera balloon-lady boss in NiGHTS gave me one of my strongest impressions of three dimensionality in a game world (Bowser in Super Mario 64 was up there too.)

Coming across the Double Dragon twins in River City Ransom, and having their theme music play in the background during the fight, was a welcomed surprise.

I can't believe I forgot this one earlier, actually my favourite :
The Mercury Core boss robot in Descent. That thing really frightened me the first time I saw it.... actually I didn't see it the first time, it saw me first and I was very dead ;)

NOW we're talking!

Oh, a couple more:

GC - Eternal Darkness - the Gate Guardian - all three are extremely cool.

PS1 - Xenogears - The "Voltron"-esque boss near the end ^_^

PS1 - Chrono Cross - This game actually has quite a few very awesome boss fights, but the Dragon God (second to last boss) was REALLY cool ^_^

SNES - Final Fantasy IV - The Four Fiends - when you fight all of them in the Giant. I think it's one of the first ever multi-part fights in an RPG (where one fight leads directly into the next) and still one of the most surprisingly difficult.

PS2 - Final Fantasy X - Sin, the outside parts - It isn't hard. Sin is really ugly (heh... 'ugly as sin'?). But the sheer scale of the fight is pretty cool =)

Might think of more later.
