The way I see it, R350 & NV35 are the ones to get

Nv35 will probably be six months after Nv30, and probably just a speed bin (though there are rumors of a perprimitive processor making it in).

If we assume the rumors are true, and the CEO isn't lying, Nv30 should debut in December. Add six - eight months (what they've currently been doing). So sometime in June or July 2003.

The increased competition from ATI should hopefully force Nv40 to not merely be a minor upgrade (like doubling vertex shaders or such), but rather be a brand new core with new features. That was Nvidia's old six month schedule, which has slowed considerably of late.

Granted, process complexity is getting overwhelming. Somehow, I doubt we'll ever see product pace like Nvidia had in 1999-2000.

I should also say, that this should push NV40 into 2004 :) with NV50 possibly being the basis for the XBox2 chip in 2005 or 2006. ... providing XBox2 is powered by an Nvidia chip that is :)

I doubt it will be. After the bad experience they had with MS, they won't even want to be the chip in the second XBox, even if MS wanted them to make it.

Isn't the Xbox making up 20% (or something like that) of nVidia's revenue? I think they would want that again. :)

Well, one pretty good reason to buy now and not in the spring is the simple fact that more are going to stay inside and play games during winther than summer. ;)

(... and of course things are reversed for you folks down-under)

I thought the Xbox revenues had turned sour... didn't the whole thing go to arbitration which Microsoft won so they didn't have to pay Nvidia as much, forcing Nvidia to report more of a loss? Maybe I'm mistaken...

For Nvidia to not want to be a part of the X-Box 2 action would be surprising. It seems like a good potential revenue stream. I could see Nvidia's stock taking a hit if M$ announced that ATI would be a part of the X-Box 2.

wtf are youguys saying about nv35 being basically a higher clocked NV30 but with possibly the primitive processor???? i usually dont flame but are you idiots!?!?!?! NV10 = GeForce256, later we saw GeForce256 DDR; NV15 = GeForce2 GTS, later we see faster GeForce2 Ultra; NV20 = GeForce3, later we see GeForce3 Ti; NV25 = GeForce4, later we see GeForce4 X8...... sooo NV30 = first gen DX9, later we see speed increase (maybe new type of RAM support?); NV35 = 2nd gen DX9, later we see speed increase.........

NVx5 is always a *new core.* Granted, its not a new *design* but is IS a *improved design*, hence new core!

ugh............

First of all: Tone down a bit, will you? No need to flame around.

NV15 was basically a NV10 (DX7 T&L) with some minor improvements and higher speed.
NV25 was basically a NV20 (DX8 programmable T&L) with slightly extended PS (1.3-1.1), improved FSAA and higher speed.
So why is it wrong to say that NV35 is basically a NV30 (DX9 programmable T&L) with a primitive processor and higher speed?

Persnally I feel that NV20 was designed with the PS1.3 capabilities in mind but either it wasn't quite right or they just didn't expose it in the drivers. Remember the 'NSR' of GTS was in GF1 except for a bug in one of the modes.

Although there is no need to get quite so excited about this, I do agree with you. The differences with the chips you mentioned, you are correct in every case as far as I'm concerned. And NV35 will not be just a clocked up Nv30 - NV35 should be as different to NV30 as GeForce2 GTS was to GeForce256 - I am sure Nvidia will produce a faster NV30 with DDRII before we see the NV35 -

Thinking about the timing some more, I now expect the faster NV30 (with DDRII most likely) to be the spring 2003 product while the NV35 becomes the fall/christmas product.

You can see the differences between NV10 and NV15, NV20 and NV25 and NV30 and NV35, as the differences between Willemette and Northwood P4 (or coppermine/Tualatin for P3). Just the exact same architecture but with some fixes and small changes. May be what fails in this case is that different versions in CPUs are also changes in the technology process. It is just that for CPUs it doesn't pay to change things in the same technology level.
