The Order: 1886

Any info about the gameplay is final or we can expect something new when it gets released?

Currently it looks very standard shooter gameplay.

Hopefully it's very story-driven, and they seem to bet on it's cinematic qualities and an immersive world. It's a win for me only if the story has significantly more subtlety and provides more interesting theme development than the usual shooter. From the interviews I have some hope, but anything less than a really great story will make this an instant fail.

I did enjoy the negative reviews so far, ironically. They are convincing me it's my type of game, at least, specially when they go adrift to express how much they hated Heavy Rain and that David Cage sucks, etc... I didn't mind the QTE in Heavy Rain, I'm kind of neutral. Nobody so far said the story sucks.

Negative reviews? Where are they? I want to read them. I'll judge for myself if I ever get a chance to play it. I just like to read negative reviews because they normally come across as pretty humourous.

I googled "1886 will suck", best way to find the negatives.

All of them are going to give out major spoilers once the entire game is available to journalists, so now is the time to stop reading.

To note: Ryse was given terrible reviews and when I played it on harder difficulties modes the game was pretty enjoyable. I have a feeling this could be the case with Order as well.

Yeah good point about Ryse. I remember both Ryse and Knack had a similar split in the early impression, a significant portion of the gaming population ended up loving them. It seems to be another one of those games where reviews "average" is not telling the whole story. I predict a lot of 9/10 and lot of 1/10 already.

At least it doesn't have the problem of being a launch game, there's a nice user base today.

OK I'll take back the lack of color and etc said earlier, this game just shuts me up with its graphics like no others. Gonna have to rally up my body parts to be 100% ready for Feb 20th.

looks it using "monochrome" effect like what was talked in other topic about realistic graphic
yellow ish, blue ish, etc.

I just think that the entire foetid morass of criticism and vitriol against this game has been mostly contrived nonesense. Essentially from journos and fanboy gamers with an axe to grind, or folks who jump on the dogpile on an unreleased game in order to further some warped and very narrow-minded personal crusade against the evil tyranny of story and narrative in gaming.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for games striking a balance with gameplay in the eternal (but highly flawed) debate about "gameplay vs. story/graphics"... but this game has somehow been targetted by some as a poster child or exemplar of a "story/graphics"-based game (to the detriment of gameplay) when the game quite obviously has no less gameplay than any in the last 8 years of Third Person Shooters that we've all played, loved and enjoyed (comparisons to Heavy Rain and David Cage games are rediculous).

I mean, by all means rage about "story/graphics" killing gameplay if that's your thing (regardless of how ludicrous such an notion is). But at least come up with meaningful arguments against games that legitimately don't get the balance right... certainly not games you've not even played all the way through.

*shrug*

The most obnoxious thing about these people to me however, is their complete arrogance and inability to conscience the fact that not everyone actually likes or values what they do about videogames. Folks just need to get over themselves. Buy the games you like and ignore the ones you don't. You may even enjoy the hobby abit more that way.

Have you read the edge preview? What do you have to criticize about that? I have not seen any example of this game being targeted unfairly, but maybe you have?

What "people" do you actually mean here? People have names and you can tell us who you mean.

Also, if you do not like discussing games you are most probably in the wrong place. This is a forum for people who like to discuss games.

I haven't read the Edge preview yet, so I wasn't really referring to that. I was mostly talking about the stuff like the Game Central (Metro.uk) preview and some of the criticisms from particular members on forums like NeoGaf. I don't think anyone here at B3D has been unfair with this game, and I normally hold members of this forum to a much higher standard than elsewhere. (That's a compliment)

See above... If you read my post correctly you would understand that I'm not saying that I don't like talking about games. I'm saying that I don't like wasting my time trying to engage in intelligent discourse about a game with people on the net who cannot be rational or objective about the subject matter.

Mr Fox was mentioning the previews he'd read on the wider web, and I'm commenting on those.

For some reason this game has seemed to bring out a lot of irrationality and underserved hate from people in the media and online, and I'd rather refrain from giving them clicks since I don't agree with the position of hating on an unreleased game without justifiable reason just because the limited amount you have seen doesn't align with your subjective vision of what ALL games should conform to; a standard that is also curiously not applied equally to all unreleased games for comparative measure.

Well, so far the playable snippets of gameplay they've released publically all looked incredibly boilerplate (the gunplay) if not downright awful (the stealth segments and the qtes). It just happens to look really pretty, and just about everyone is in agreement on that too. Calling it what it is isn't being irrational or hateful.

I wanna play the game because I want to experience the game's visuals for myself, but that is literally the only reason right now. As an interactive experience, I think it looks utterly shit. Most writers aren't graphics whores above all else though, so the general reaction to the game hardly comes as a surprise.
