The Official, Long Awaited, TV Shows Thread

Wait, what? o_O

I'm about to watch True Detective, season 2. I really liked the first season, so I was shocked when I knew that the second one was a completely different story, with different characters. Any opinions on it?

It's not very good.

I ended up half-watching it most of the time. Lots of characters in this one and I didn't give a crap about any of them.

Second season was a mess, too many characters, a convoluted plot and no Fukunaga in this.
But despite all of this, it ends in a hight note, and keep wondering why the showrunner F...d up all.

Anyway, apparently they´re still hoping for a third season, we´ll see

This April it´s filled with good drama: Fargo, Prison Break (Resurrection), The Leftovers series finale, and Dr Who :)

Wait, what?
A typical OTA channel show is 1 hour, of which around 40-45 mins is the actual show. FX channel shows tend to have more content and less ads. Taboo is another good example.

Yes, I understand. It's just that I found Brit's opinion quite funny, because he was serious about it. :)

I mean, a 10 minutes difference doesn't mean that much to me, even in the "long" run of 8/10 episodes. To me, it depends more on the content.

To me I find the full hour of content from shows like GoT to be more fulfilling. Public channel shows tend to have to rush through the episode more. Guess it's more dependent on the content as you mention but I just prefer full hour episodes.

A 10 minute difference times 8 episodes is 1.5 to 2 episodes.

The trouble with Legion is too much time spent on obvious items. They must have been catering to real idiots. They could have concentrated the good content, kill thefiller, and then added more of the good content. That is why that show will never be as good as a premium channel shows like GameOfThrones.

Anyone watched Iron Fist ? This is another marvel character that I've never heard off. I've watched the first two episodes and it's engaging enough and slightly different enough that it's pique my interest for me.

Also, I think this seasons homeland has been much better than some of the previous ones. A lot of the background/ side-story stuff is very current in terms of how it relates to current US politics, fake news, polarising viewpoints, unapologetic brashness etc. Except for the rather small point that they went with a female president-elect. Like just about everyone else, that turned out to be a bad call.

I vaguely remember Iron Fist and Luke Cage from around the mid-70s when blacksplotation films were the rage. Like when Shaft was out Marvel felt the need to start including more african-american characters.

I never really read them, just when they crossed over with Spidey. (And back then, EVERYTHING crossed over with Spidey...they had my number. <sigh>)

Still watching 24, season 2.

Great comedy series. Really. I love how fate puts Kim in trouble after trouble. So funny. I laugh.

Been watching DC's Legends of Tomorrow I'd say its sort of Saturday morning kids fare
I started watching it because it contains my favourite super hero Firestorm (hey I'm a physics geek)
but he's been nerfed. In this show all he can do is fly and shoot fireballs.

Finished American Horror Story Season 2. Was pretty cool actually. Surprising, well acted (Jessica Lange is so freaking great in this), bolstered by fantastic production values, not to mention legitimately nasty at times. Quel surprise: it's a horror series for fans of actual horror.

Started season 3 now, and so far I like it even better: It's about a school for witches. Like a really messed up version of Hogwarts. It's mostly traded the grim and hopeless vibe of Season 2's Asylum setting for lots of sass and camp (still pretty gory, though), but it works beautifully and has been a ton of fun to watch so far. Jessica Lange steals the show once again, but I cannot wait until they finally let Kathy Bates (as a nasty, immortal slave owner from New Orleans who spent the better part of the last 2 centuries buried alive underneath her own mansion) off her leash. These two ladies should be glorious together.

Also finally finished Daredevil Season 2. Earlier this year I stopped watching somewhere around its midpoint because I wanted more of the awesome Punisher, whereas the idea of the folks making the show was to try and feed me Elektra instead. Glad I eventually went back to it, though. It does pick up considerably and the final 3 or 4 episodes are pretty damn spectacular. Overall it's just a little too scattershot to compete with the magnificent and focused first season, though.

I started Twin Peaks a couple of days ago. First, how did I get 27 years on from it first airing without watching it? Granted I was only 10 years old when it first hit the airwaves, but it's a little embarrassing I'm only getting round to it now. Second, how did I completely miss that there was a supernatural aspect to it? I thought it was a mostly standard crime drama with no funny business, and that its reputation hung off it being a great story, terrifically shot and acted. I mean, it's still those things, but it's also clear that a lot of the draw is the fact it's weird.

Sorry I'm so late to this particularly delicious party.

Most of the things I watch/play are old pending stuff which I wasn't able to enjoy at their time, so I understand what you feel. :)

I was in my 20s when it was on but I still have never seen it, is it any good?
