The Official, Long Awaited, TV Shows Thread

Boba Fett...pretty good, although somewhere around 1/2 way it basically ends up another madalorian series.
Reacher...good
Picard series 2....enjoying this series a lot more than the first, seems pacier/punchier.

Looking forward to the LOTRs series.

HBO announced premier of House of Dragon, a GoT spinoff, for Aug 21, just around the time of the LOTR series premier.

Halo episode 2 is astoundingly dull. If you ignore the Halo visual design and this, could easily be any below-average generic sci-fi TV show.

You are far too kind.

I wanted to vomit while watching the show. Nothing in it makes any sense at this point. They've completely jumped the rails with this... The spoiler isn't REALLY a spoiler, but what the hell?

Cortana? WTF, seriously, WTF? Also, the human villains (yes, plural) are so comically bad, and not in a good way.

The writing for this show so far makes the writers for the Halo game series seem like brilliant writing geniuses, not to mention the various authors of the Halo novels now seem like godly paragons of writing ability. That isn't saying that the Halo writers in their various capacities are actually god-like in their ability, but to illustrate just how incredibly bad the writers for the Halo TV series are.

And consider that I already had lowered expectations due to the vague statements of others who had access to both episode 1 and episode 2 at its premiere. This was far worse than I could have ever imagined possible.

At this point, I'm more watching to see how bad this train wreck is than I am with any hope that somehow this storyline will be redeemed and the writers will actually come up with anything resembling a logically connected story within the groundwork that they have established, weak as it is.

Well, that and I'm hoping there will at least be more decently filmed combat sequences which were the singular highlight of the first episode.

Gah, I want to go puke now.

Regards,
SB

I think Star Trek: Picard might be setting itself up to finish the series off with a bang this season. It would make sense to make sure the show didn't end on a whimper, as a great finish would keep the show in demand for future rentals. The whole alternate time line stuff is being taken to the extreme in regards Picard's life, and I think this season could also be a sort of send-off for Patrick Stewart being a series star in a Star Trek show.

I think they aren't being coy about it either. It's too similar to how they concluded ST:TNG, the TV show.

Now I'm reminded how good it would be to be able to see Odyssey 5 again. :)

That was an absorbing show, but it couldn't quite settle into a groove that could attract a big enough audience to justify getting renewed.

I forgot Moon Knight came out, thanks! There's a character in the comic "Cerebus" named "The Moon Roach" who's a parody of him and he was one of my fave characters. Can't wait to see the series, hope it's faithful to the comics.

Also new Severance should come out in under an hour and I am waiting...

I thought I read that they filmed seasons 2 and 3 of Picard at the same time, while they had PS.

Oh, well that shoots my theory down. Thanks for the heads-up. Though if they end Season Two on a cliff-hanger, with the story of the bad alternate time line still going, then that could work to end the series with a bang in the third season.

Taking a cue from The Lord of the Rings finale, they could have several episodes after the plot had been resolved that served as extended epilogues. Give every cast member a nice send-off in other words.

Resident Alien is on a break, it looks like we're getting a good amount of episodes in the second season, but they're splitting it in two.

All I can say is ...

Haha. You know, I originally wrote something along the lines of whoever at Microsoft originally green-lit this adaptation should probably be moved to another role and that I'd really like to see Microsoft shitcan this series and started over from scratch and maybe deliver, you know, fucking Halo. But I deleted it and wrote my earlier post instead.

I suspect ... and before I say this, I have a lot of respect for Bonnie Ross, as a developer on older titles and as a really good executive producer. However, I don't think she's a good fit for the Halo Franchise as Halo 4 and 5 happened under her watch and under her guidance. I suspect that she was hands off with Halo: Infinite and that's why it reverted back to more of the original Halo without all the weird politics and all the crap with Cortana.

However, I think that part of being hands off with Halo: Infinite might be because she was hands on with getting the Halo TV series off the ground. It kind of "feels" like what she wanted Halo (the game) to become. I dunno, maybe I'm seeing too much into it, but AAAAAUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH.

The Halo TV series could have been soooo good. Instead we ended up with this crap. It's like it was written by writers who watched too much Lynch and Cronenberg with a dash of Anime and wanted to make something like the Battlestar Galactica reboot only the writers didn't actually understand why those directors are good, what makes Anime work, or truly understood what Battlestar Galactica was doing.

The show is just one comically badly done stereotypical trope after another which is all handled with the care and touch of a blind arthritic weight lifter wielding a cast iron pan and suffering from constant vertigo.

I do not understand how this got greenlit for a 2nd season. Although that pessimistic side of me suspects (probably unfairly) that Bonnie Ross really likes what they've done because I can't see how a second season could have gotten the green light without her approval.

But, maybe miracles do exist and somehow the show gets better. I'll be absolutely dumbfounded if it does, but maybe God exists and we'll see a miracle happen. :p

Somebody literally watched the first season and said "this is good stuff, lets commit to a second season"

For streaming services it's not about the quality of the content but about the demographics it targets and what it brings in. They really didn't have anything big to bring in the younger demographics, until now. StarTrek draws in older demographics. Thats why it was greenlighted for a second season. It's also the reason Netflix shitcans some Series despite them being quite good, because they didn't have a draw in the demographics they were hoping for, meanwhile they renew some trashy Series for a second and third season.

For what it's worth, I've been seeing folks quite enjoy the Series. It's as they say, there's no accounting for tastes.

I still haven't watched any episodes, and won't do so until it's all available at the end. I'm expecting it to be about on par with the older Stargate series, nothing amazing and just some mindless entertainment.

@BRiT I've no idea what demographic Paramount are trying to appeal too, perhaps people with head trauma?

I liked the first episode but it went downhill like a 117 crashing on Earth.

To be fair, the first episode was far from perfect but it was good enough to be enjoyable and engaging.

The 2nd episode was like was made by totally different director or something

It’s certainly a challenging show. I’m not quite sure what they are going for just yet.

i don’t hate it. I can still watch it. There will not be another halo show, so this is it lol.

This! I quote liked episode 1, but yeah.. there was such a discontinuity in tone and consistency in episode 2. If they suggest in episode 3 that the Covenant are hyper-evolved dolphins revenging man's polluting of Earth, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at this stage. I'm like.. yeah, sure.. makes sense. :yep2:
