The Official G84/G86 Rumours & Speculation Thread

Jaysus, what is going on with double-wide midrange offerings all of a sudden? I mean, if they were passive cooling that would be one thing. . .

Id rather have dual slot cooling. For one thing they push hot air out of the case and does better in cooling.

So i dont mind, unless the dual slot if interfering something on the motherboard.
Looks like that MSI 8600GTS is going to be highly overclocked than stock by the looks of the cooler used.

Btw, whats that red button for? self destruct button? turbo mode?

Dx10 midrange vill consume as much as Dx9 ATI highrange. This is not your dads midrange card. ;) Perhaps its time to go shopping for a new/auxillary power supply as well. My meek 18A/12V 420 W supply is weakening my E-penis erection.

Humm, could there possibly be a more CPU limited setup than that one ?? (Athlon 64 3000+, that's a 1.8GHz single core processor)

Yes, since CPU does infact have an influence on the final score i believe. Paired with a C2D E6600, we should be seeing a higher number then that one.

Looks like the 8600GTS might give the 7900GTX a run for its money.

For reference

7900GTX
6350~ 3dmark06 with core 2 X6800
X1950XTX
6700~ 3dmark06 with core 2 X6800

8600GTS
5488~ 3dmark06 with Althon64 1.8ghz?

The scores for 7900GTX and X1950XTX from hothardware. Anyone notice that the S.M 3.0 score of the 8600GTS is really low? driver problem? I think so.

Im beginning to believe this card will be as fast as a 7900GTX if not faster. Promising indeed.

(A64 4000+ is a A64 4000+ X2!)
Is it not strange, that 8600GTS' SM 2.0 score is higher than X1950XTX' score?
Or 8600GTS' 3.0 score is lower than X1950XTX' score?
But let's do a little bit maths:
3DMark06 Score = 2.5 * 1.0/ ((1.7/game score + 0.3/CPU score)/2)
Game score for HDR/SM3.0 hardware = 0.5 * (SM2.0 score + HDR/SM3.0 score)
My calculated 3D Score is then: 5212.
But wait? Where is the rest of 5488 (I miss 276 3Dmarks)?
Mystery...

Im confused. The numbers are all over the place.

One of those bench marks gotta be a fake/photoshop. Then there hardware.fr reporting the GTS scores 7000 3d marks06.

That 7000 figure looks like an estimate, the screenshots are more accurate. :p

8600GTS (OC) versus 8800GTS (stock), I dont think thats what trini was saying ..

Yeah, but it comes close, considering the price difference.

The significantly different technical and physical properties (128bit bus, 80nm, single-slot, power consumption, etc) compared to the 8800 GTS (320bit bus, 90nm, double-slot, higher power draw, higher price) would make it appear to be much less powerful than it really is.
