I tried watching The Office when it first aired here in the States. I watched it because I liked Steve Carell from the Daily Show, but I just couldn't get into it.
I guess sometimes translations just don't work well at all.

maybe... I suspect people just didn't give it enough of a chance. I said the same thing as most ppl to my g/f after the first three eps -- that the shoes of the UK series were too big to fill and this series seemed more sadistic than ironic. But we stuck with and I'm hooked. I guess it helps that I've worked in that office. ok ok so it wasn't a paper company, but it was in PA! and moreover, the characters are so spot-on.
