I went to the cinema the other day, my family got me off my seat in front of the PC to watch some shite about a mouse or gerbil that does cooking in France. I soon fell asleep but before I did that I noticed that there was this horrible flickering across the screen like 60Hz in tv terms.

If it's a standard film projector, it's 48Hz. IIRC, each frame of the film (at 24 fps) is flashed twice when it is displayed.
