TGS impressions from people there

...together with the other 10 thread you've opened today, all of them about TGS.
I guess per-game info should be separated from general impression of the show

I think Sony won by more than a mile.. (This doesn't mean 360 games won't be as fun or anything..) but there is no question after today which console is more capable.

Yeah comparing trailers with actual gameplay videos is a good way to find the most powerful console

As much as I am impressed by the MGS4 (and PS3 games in general), I would think the biggest difference we're seeing now in terms of games is the difference between A developers and AAA+. Kojima is running an exceptional talented team with fantastic art-direction - I haven't seen anything on Xbox yet that can compare. But I'm sure it will have its share of impressive titles as well when those AAA developers start to make big progress.

At this point of time though, Xbox360 IMO isn't making the impact it should be, being the one that's going to be on sale in roughly 2 months.

Aren't you kinda putting down Rare, Epic, and Bizarre? I thought they were AAA devs.

I know but that trailer was made with the actual (beta) hardware. The final PS3 hardware is going to be ALOT more powerfull + I haven't seen ANY XBOX360 game which stunned me including the nice looking Gears of ware.. I wish you lots of gaming fun in November but I'm going to wait for the PS3.

Well check out the

MGS4 realtime demonstration by Kojima on this board and well your point is dead.

Well it's still not gameplay, it's just proving it's not pre-rendered; which wasn't really anyone's accusation to begin with.

But it's still awesome.

It's NOT, I mean NOT beta hardware. Why do people keep saying that? Is it because it looks nice? Its alpha hardware. Alpha. Lets say it together, A-L-P-H-A. Thank you. The betakits come out this December with the real RSX chip, the full CELL, more bandwidth, plus more.

Remember it's the alpha kits. Probably around what 50% of what the total PS3 can do? What do you guys think the current alpha kit percentage wise is around?

I thought the kits that come out in December are going to be final kits, not beta...

I have to disagree, I think sony's dev kits are close to final hardware already, even if they are using a 7800gtx they will have all the basic features of the rsx and cell, I don't think it's going to be a jump in quality like with x360 games, as far as MGS4 goes it looks great but I still say it's on par with what unreal engine 3 offers, the art work is just better

Cell is clocked 25% lower, and they are using Geforce 7800 (wich have 256 MB of 256 bits memory right?) i would say....that kits right now are very very very close to final Kits performance.

You're pulling those numbers out of one of your orifices.
Sure these are Alpha kits, but a 25% clock increase in Cell, a real RSX and some other bumps here and there won't make it 2X more powerful (you're saying this Alpha is 50% of what PS3 can do).
One thing that will definately have a huge impact is the fact that this kit has a PCIe bus, the PS3 bandwidth will be many times higher.
Still, as a whole, the system will likely not be 2X more powerful.

While I agree, I believe the accusation go a bit further than just that it wasn't pre-rendered. The main accusators are implying that because it's scripted, a lot of stuff is being done to enhance the visual impression - which, when you take that thread and see that Kojima is adding stuff and changing the camera in realtime makes this just that little much more authentic.

In truth though, you'll never be able to please anyone. Using scripting to "enhance" visuals could be done in gameplay too - you're basically simply adding more stuff to the visuals and balancing out the engine by showing for example less characters on screen... so I guess any attempt to prove anything is in fact futile and a waste of time...

actually the current Cell configuration is 2.8 Ghz and 7800 GTX with 2 times the memory bandwidth of the RSX (thats around 80% of final hardware)

the final kit will have 3.2 ghz and RSX with 512 MB XDR Ram (which is 2x the final product)

? I got confused in that last bit. What is 2x the final product?
