- Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the former head of United Game Artists announced he will be leaving Sega on October 10. He will create his own company, but exact details are still unclear. His past works include Manx TT Superbike, Sega Touring Car, Sega Rally 2, Rez and Space Channel 5.

Looks like the merger didn't go so well...

wow those are some of the best games Sega ever made... it might be a good thing for him to have his own company, might give him the freedom to do what he wants, which maybe (i wouldnt know) he didnt have at Sega

@ ECTS I did an interview with some Sammy PR folk. They said that Sega was almost begging for a merger. But they cancelled it because it looked more like Sega was taking over Sammy instead of Sammy taking over Sega. ;)

Now Sega really has to survive with few resources (Sega was staying at some turkish hotel during ects  ), it might make 'other' or more games that appeal to the mainstream (think Virtua Fighter, Sonic, ...). Of course they are also doing their best with new titles (but Panzer Dragoon orta and the likes didn't sell well, despite of their excellent quality). Maybe that's one of Mizuguchi's reasons for leaving with UGA...

I think Sega must forget about past glory and become a mean, business minded company.....produce only those games that have chance of selling more. Forget about keeping old franchises alive....do less games like Konami but high on quality. They need to scrap few franchises IMO.

Struth! That must have been inconvenient It's a four hour flight from Istanbul to London. :p

Hopefully this isn't a bad sign; creative talent like this has traditionally been retained by SEGA because it was the only place where designers could get the freedom to innovate with so much resource backing.

well, i think most developer houses/distributors would want to be in EA's position in the market.... if i remember correctly they hold quite a big chunk of the market... surely, this doesnt say anything about the quality of their games (which is in many cases very very good though).
oh, i read the first review of SSX3 and basically they said it's great but that SSX Tricky "was better when it launched"... go figure...
