tekken 5 long trailer

The video mentions "revolutionary graphics" but i can't see any improvements except for a glaring sun effect. It looks like tekken 4 or SC2

Two criticisms:

1) How much longer will fighting games advertise "NEW PLAYERS" that are just new 3d models with new names but moves of older players, and just turn out to use the exact same gameplay as those in the previous version?

2) Is there any binding legal precedent on calling something "REVOLUTIONARY" and not actually backing it up at all? Can I call my new socks Revolutionary Socks even though they're just plain old socks? I didn't see a single item of those graphics that was revolutionary.

At least Heihachi finally died after being thrown off a cliff years ago (and then the rest :p )

The fighting style and pace are very similar to the series, the characters and the environment look a little more detailed. But the WMV is not very good as details tend to have lost during the compression.

If it is still on 246, the upgrade wouldn't be very significant.

Phenomenal! Wow! I can't wait.... didn't think I could get that excited about another Tekken game after Tekken 4... but after seeing this!

Phil, can you describe what's gotten you excited? I didn't get it at all. Not having a go, I'm genuinely interested.

Cheers mate :)

Heh, I wish I knew. I loved every second I spent with Tekken Tag Tournament and still go back to it every now and then for a good fight. Tekken 4 was a great disappointment to me... it just felt so different and never got into it, which is why I never bought that one. The trailer in this one got me somewhat excited because it seems Namco is on the right track again. Though the animation still needs some work IMO, it certainly gave me some anticipation that Tekken is back. On top of that, I think the graphics are quite outstanding, especially the moonlight stage with the grass and plants moving.

cheers mate :D

The video look very very nice. The ligthing is much improved over the somewhat dull T4, the stages are MUCH more interesting, and the whole thing is just a colour overload. Very very nice. Not "revolutionary" like they care to tell us, but very interesting indeed.

and what's with the "...and" and what follows, the penguins and the bear dancing... First thing i thought about was the mini-game Namco is bound to include in T5... Mmmmm it will be interesting. T4's "tekken force" was very boring. TTT's "tekken bowl" was very much fun, i spent hours on it!
Who knows what they'll do this time...

One thing. They still have the old cloth-physics engine, which needless to say is rather crappy to say the least. The most evident is when the new chinese guy Feng something, moves. His gown thing looks like a mess.
But hey everything else looks ace...

Its for that bear,or kuma, he is still one of the cast. His master is dead and that darn bear is dancing, dance of joy

Just read from GA forum that the game is not on System 246, Chihiro nor Tri-Force.

Ripped from Rubeus post in his thread

http://www.the-magicbox.com/gaming.htm

Japanese Arcadia magazine reported that Namco's new arcade fighting game Tekken 5 will run on a new arcade board, which is not one of the console friendly board System 246, Chihiro or Triforce. Other tidbits of Tekken 5

* Tekken 5 will have an infinite battle arena with no boundaries like in Tekken 1-3.
* Raven is a ninja who controls ninjutsu
* Asuka Kazama is the cousin of Jin
* Feng Wei uses martial art to battle, but fighting style is similar to Paul
* The Wall / Obstacle system is improved to make the game more interesting
* Some levels will have destructible objects
* Kuma / Panda are once again time release characters
* Position change function in Tekken 4 is removed, so left/right throws are possible again
* Juggles are possible like in Tekken Tag Tournament
* Low Parry Maneuver are revised
* There are pitfalls in certain arenas, such as laser beams and fire
* There will be a Beginner Mode and a Conquest Mode similar to Soul Calibur 2

New board ? System 247 ?

There are pitfalls in certain arenas, such as laser beams and fire

WTF ? They're adding DOA danger zone ? I am glad its only for certain stage.

The quote on Magic-box was said to be from the latest Arcadia, have you read anything about it ?

Nope haven't read it, I don't read that particular magazine.

However, a friend of mine who's Tekken player had,

First there is no mentioned of pitfall. They said it was just T5 will be more unreal (compare to T4), with effects like laser and fire.

There are at least going to be 30 characters in T5, Also Heihachi isn't really dead *gasp* Maybe we'll see Cyborg Heihachi.

Also they promised there will be alot of new moves for these characters.

T5 will be using similar juggle engine from TTT. Since I don't play TTT, I don't really know what that means, perhaps someone can explain.

Also no undulation despite the levels looking quite complex.
