As for why the Xbox 360, we looked at everything that we wanted to accomplish with the game, and it simply wasn’t possible to do on systems at the time. The graphics are unlike anything we’ve done before, and could only accomplish on a machine as powerful as the Xbox 360 – like the fully simulated cloth, advanced lighting system, high poly characters, etc.
Physics definitely plays a key role in mastering the art of Table Tennis. Our game runs on an engine we created in house called RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine). By utilizing the power of the engine as well as the power of the Xbox 360, we are able to create shots that have an incredible amount of rotation and speed on them, and players will definitely need to master what spins to use in certain situations to become experts at the game. You will witness the air drag coefficient slow a ball down out of mid air and drop the shot in an amazingly dramatic way. The effects that spin puts on the ball have to be seen to be believed.
The amount of information stored in each character model is larger than the data for a single level of a last gen title – in fact our audio uses more memory then was available for an entire PS2 game. We feel the game is the best expression of what is possible on next-gen systems, and will set the bar high for future titles.
