One more turn, let's see what's there... Can I siege that castle successfully? Should I confront that heroe? The weekend's nights can turn into day... Heroes of Might and Magic is like the discovery of my life, gaming wise. To the person who discovered it for me...

Thanks; from the bottom of my sorcerer heart, thank you.

And they say HoMM3 is even better. How can it be possible?
HoMM3 is a REALLY good turn-based game. Some enemy AI bugs though that can creep up in really long games, or there was in the ancient, original retail release of the game anyway. Maybe the GoG version has fixed those things? I dunno.

It had some kickass dynamic audio tracks too that game, the way the music style changed according to the terrain type you were in, and so on. It was very, very atmospheric.

lol I'm not sure MMX will appeal to anyone who hasn't enjoyed the old classics. Usually it's followed by rage about the grid system and turn-based combat.

I am making my way through the campaign of HoMM2, I am playing the penultimate map of the storyline already.

Then it will be time for Heroes of Might and Magic 3, which I am so excited about --I just played the intro, tested a windowed version utility and that was about it.

As for the bug fixes, I dunno about the GoG version, since for me the game might be flawless, but this neat utility fixes some things.

(I found it there, but the actual site to download it is here, it fixes some bugs, or so it says, dunno if they are the bugs you are talking about) https://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/

I just bought Might and Magic X Legacy, only played a few minutes and never played any of the earlier games.
When did you buy it? A couple of days ago? Where? The game is a month old.

For me it is becoming my favourite gaming franchise -I am planning on buying ALL the games and complete them. I think Heroes of Might and Magic introduced an entirely new genre into gaming.

The game is so lovely. Give it a try, you will be completely hooked.

I played Heroes of Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes for the Xbox 360 before anything else in the series. But I didn't know what I was playing, I got it because it was free with the Games with Gold offer. :smile2:

It was the only game I completed in the last year on the X360, it got me totally hooked -although I liked the 3 initial campaigns more than the last one, mainly the characters-.

I followed a Gamefaqs guide to get all the artifacts and so on.

But once I completed the game I didn't even check for earlier games, I just recalled a series named Heroes of Might and Magic existed and always loved that name, but nothing else. Still a good game but I am preferring the classics.

Until I watched someone playing HoMM2 on Youtube, and it was love at first sight!! :smile2:

It felt like it was the game -and the series- I was waiting for, and when I purchased it and the rest of the series I realised I wasn't wrong.

Heroes of Might and Magic is so inspirational and compelling that I want to try every game in the series.

Too bad I am like 20 years late in the case of the original HoMM, but the little I played it.. it is mostly a text based RPG. Still lovely though...

One of the best series from the mists of time there was, one of the best series there will be. :smile2:

Cyan,

The HoMM3 bugs I encountered all happened on a couple custom maps I made myself with the map editor where the intent was to make "superhero" type heroes to fight against a full set of enemy AIs. My base was in a corner of the map barricaded behind mountains with plenty resources reserved for myself.

One bug was that sometimes enemy hero characters would spend their entire turn taking one step out of their home town, back in again and then repeat until they were out of moves. Sometimes the enemy AI would just sit there, the game thinking and thinking and nothing happening for upwards of a minute, and then the turn would end (sometimes without the hero making even one single move). Heroes would make truly epically dumb decisions, like attacking numerically superior foes, even to the point of walking past unoccupied towns or mines to get to the hero/town they'd decided to suicide against... ;)

A couple times, after a huge number of rounds, I also encountered very high-level AI heroes with armies consisting of tens of thousands of creatures that were basically unwinnable against in a battle even against a VERY strong hero of your own. There's no way the enemy hero could have gathered that many creatures legitimately, some kind of internal counter in the AI must have overflowed/wrapped around to cause this.

Anyway, it's a really fun game, and during the campaign game things like this would of course not have the chance of happening! :)

The AI of Homm and quite frankly the difficulty is rather broken IMHO. Just to say that I spent weeks of my live with HoMM3 and usually the outcome was that I when did the right stuff or got lucky at the start then I had 1-2 Heros that clobbered everything down with ease and the housemaid heroes would collect and transfer stuff around behind them.
If I werent so lucky then the game would have alot of ingame-weeks just gathering resources to catch up the the ever evolving NPCs. Its a rather steep slipery slope of having enough troups to gather tons of resources without much losses or just wasting everything on some sort of roadblocks.

But yeah, dont know a series thats as fun and time consuming as these. Disciples is often named but I thought it to be rather horribly broken and bland.

Grall and Npl, those bugs might be fixed already. A new FREE expansion for Heroes of Might and Magic 3 -considered by many the best in the series- has been released less than a month ago! (with a new campaign, additions, and bug fixes) It is called Horn of the Abyss.

LOTS of LOVE put into it. :O :O < 3 < 3 Awesome stuff. You have all the info in its own thread, which has a lot of pages already.

A-MAZING. I posted the link in my previous message but I am going to post it here too. (remember that this it is constantly updated)

http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=39830

This is the link to the added features and bug fixes (I think the infinity bug and others Npl and Grall listed are mentioned as fixed, if I am correct)

http://forum.df2.ru/index.php?showtopic=32286

Additionally, I am in the last stage of Roland's campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic 2. And I can wait to play Heroes of Mght and Magic 3.

Thing is... I need a good night's sleep. I haven't slept well this weekend, from Friday to Saturday (I began to sleep at 9:30AM ) and Saturday to Sunday (it was worse today, I began to sleep at 10:30AM).

I am learning about the lore of Heores of Might and Magic, and can't stop playing it, and that's what happens.

I think I am in love. :p

I bought the boxed edition since I value the physical product
Ok, I hope you enjoy it. Does it have any kind of unnecessary DRM like having to be online all the time or useless DRM features like that?

A very knowledgeable friend of mine, knowing my love for the Heroes of Might and Magic recommended me the King's Bounty series, because they have the same gameplay.

Ironies of life I had King's Bounty: Crossroads GOTY already, but didn't remember that and when I went to purchase the game I realised that I had a King's Bounty game already!! :D I got a discount when purchasing the other King's Bounty game, because of having the complete series.

I purchased it at GoG time ago because I loved the girl in the cover and that it said Game of the Year Edition. :smile2:

But I played it very little, since I used to downclock the laptop because the fans began to work at full speed.

Now that I know this I am going to play it in the future.

I also purchased King's Bounty: The Legend, because of the fact that it is based on the Heroes of Might and Magic series, :smile2: and it seems to be a very good game.

A very brief summary for dummies on Heroes of Might and Magic 3 awesome utilities, so indispensable.

Heroes 3 HD: This utility allows you to play HoMM3 in windowed mode, 32 bits modes too....

It also dramatically decreases the CPU usage in HoMM3, which was very high, and fixes a bug that freezes the game when a multicore CPU is used. (the GoG version of the game fixes this too, but I mention this just in case).

It's compatible with Horn of the Abyss and similar expansions and stuff, and in fact I'd recommend to launch the classic HoMM3 or Horn of the Abyss using this amazing utility, since it detects the full game and all your add-ons and let you launch them.

Official site in English:

https://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/

Horn of the Abyss: An expansion from this year 2014, which features graphical and gameplay enhancements, bug fixes and two campaigns. It's not compatible with the original Heroes 3 campaigns for now, but you can play them just fine, of course.

It gets updated over time and they are working on making it compatible with the original campaigns of Heroes of Might and Magic 3.

I haven't played any of Assassin's Creed games, but noticed they were on sale on Steam.

I got these

Assassin's Creed 2.49 EUR
Assassin's Creed II: Deluxe Edition 2.49 EUR
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood 3.74 EUR
Assassin's Creed Revelations 3.74 EUR
Assassin's Creed 3 Standard Edition 4.99 EUR

Total 17.45 EUR, not bad :)

Assassin's Creed is a very good series to explore, high production values and great graphics. A warning though, don't play one after the other because you'll become soooo bored with doing the same stuff over and over and you'll end up wanting to climb everything around you in real life. I usually play a few games through in between them.

At least you can just ignore it with auto-signin and simply close it after you quit the game.

No always on requirement, but there is the wonderful uplay to keep you entertained
Puke.... I have Uplay on the Xbox One 'cos of Assassin's Creed IV and I couldn't care less about it. Dunno why companies want to shove those services down our throats when we don't need them at all.

As for Might and Magic X, I realised it is from the RPG series, but I am not familiar with it. People hold some of the Might and Magic games in high regard but I kiiiiiiiiinda prefer Heroes approach.

Still I could buy a game from the RPG side of the franchise at a significant date this year. Turns out that at an important day for me it is feast day of saint Francis of Assissi. And that of Saint Petronus. And of Saint Amun. Maybe then... ;)

On a different note, I wrote to a friend recently about what makes Heroes of Might and Magic 3 -and the Heroes series in general- so great and found it interesting to share, so I am now another hero in the Heroes Community and wrote this thread devoted to Heroes of Might and Magic, what makes it so special, unique, great, and different from other games.

To summarise, it is like playing Chess, and it feels like actual strategy. But I wrote about that in more detail, and experts, veterans on the game seem to agree with me.

http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=40005&pagenumber=1

I added the tag GoG to the thread. Thanks to the mod who took my suggestion into consideration, Al, Shifty, you people are great. Still the mention of GOG -Good Old Games- in the title isn't everything I thought it could be.

It says GMG, there is clearly a typo. Time waits for no one, they say, but time also can wait for it to be edited --unless I am wrong, in which case, sorry, GMG doesn't exist.

Back into Heroes of Might and Magic, I can't stop playing it whenever I can get my hands on it. It is incredible addicting.
