I'll definitely give the MMO part a try. And hell I'd buy the game just for the squadron 42 part anyway. Looks amazing.
But seeing as how the Star Citizen part is MMO only, I think most of my time will be spent in X:Rebirth.
Pretty cool that we have 2 amazing looking space games on the radar. This genre needs more love.

These are the current player useable capital ships announced for the game so far.
- 4.5 million funding goal added the Corvette and Destroyer class ships.
- 5.5 million funding goal added a Carrier class ship.
- 13 million funding goal added a Frigate class ship.
- 15 million fundeing goal added an Escort Carrier class ship.
- 17 million funding goal added a Battlecruiser class ship.
I so can't wait for this game to come out. I still remember how incredible Eve-Online was and still is (don't play it anymore though). And how I wish at times you could take more direct control of ships (more so the smaller frigates and destroyers rather than the big capital ships).
Hopefully, this has similar but more "things to do" as Eve-Online. I really like the extensive mining, harvest, manufacturing, etc. system in that game as it was more closely modeled on real world manufacturing with extensive build times (could take weeks to build 1 capital ship) and supply lines (impossible for 1 person to gather and manufacture everything needed for a capital ship due to the sheer magnitude of resources required).

Agree with both of you above and I want this to evolve into one game. Eve strategy and economy + dog-fighting!
PS. Watched Ender's Game and would love to have at home this type of interface as he used for final training. BTW during that move I felt someone involved in making it played EVE

I currently have the freelancer. There is a rumor that the star farer might come back for sale before lti ends. So I might trade in the freelancer for that. If not I might still switch to a connie from the freelancer.

Hookay... So why can you buy stuff for real money in a game which is - supposedly at least I thought - all about working your way up from the bottom...? *shakes head* That defeats the purpose of the game, yes?

Some people just don't want to grind, and others are cash-rich and time poor and prefer to jump over the early work to get a good ship. Some people just want to get good starting stuff and feel like they are supporting the development of the game.
It's all good, it's not like you have to pay up for ships if you don't want to, and it's not like you have to pay to be able to get good stuff in the game.

I agree with you. Part of this kind of game is the effort it takes to get a good ship, and it makes your success a sweeter thing. By jumping in a few rungs up, you miss out on some of the experience. There are a lot of people today who just don't have the time or attention, and so will pay some money to get to the top a little quicker.
There are some excellent interview videos with Chris Robertson the topic of buying ships and how they view it, actually really good listening to him, makes a lot of sense.
He also breaks down how much detail goes into ships and ultimately how much it costs to fully design everything that goes into one in tall life money terms. Excellent stuff.

The problem I have is that since it's an MMO it will be Uber hard to earn any good ships. At least that's how MMOs are in my experience.

That's not how much it costs. They had specific goals per every 500k at the start and then per 1m at this point.
So at 5.5m you got the Bengal carrier as a player ship , at 6m you got 100 star systems at launch , orchestral music and other stuff.
No original backers get LTI hull . So I would keep getting my ship back. The more times I get my ship destroyed the longer it takes for me to get it back.
You can also pay for hull insurance with in game credits. Then there is insurance for add on weapons and any cargo you might have.
They have said the Constellation which is $225 bucks can be earned with as little as 60-80 hours of in game play. Of course that's if you only take the starter ship and then work just towards the goal of the new ship.

On the last day of the kickstarter you were able to buy the Idris class corvette for $1k . There is a rumor some of the ships will come back for the last day of LTI insurance on Nov 26th
They are already in but the devs don't want hundreds of them flying around the world so they are only avalible in during flash sales to keep the number down.
For anyone who wants the game , LTI insurance ends the 26th for original backers. What you can do is buy packages to end up with the proper dollar amount , wait 24 hours and "melt" them down and then gift them to me. After 24 hours I would buy the package you want (which attaches lti to it) and then gift it back to you.
