So you are going to ask 10-25 million people to buy a add-on to play Forza 3?

lol - obviously not!
Worst case scenario - mutli-dvd
best case - hd-dvd has regular dvd9 layer and hddvd layer for hddvd based 360

So what about people like you that brought the console without the HD-DVD drive?

See my post at the top of the page "they'd still have to do multiple-DVD versions for people with the old systems."

So it would work like PC games or BR and HD Movies, with 2 versions, regular dvd w/ multi-discs, or enhanced HD-DVD on a aingle disc.

Would they charge more for either copy?

lol, it's just an idea man!! I would hope not but you never know.

Hey I was just going with the flow. I never seen anybody bring that idea up, so I wanted to see your viewpoint. It's interesting. I hope it never ever happens though.

Sorry but if it did happen that would mean I wouldn't be able to buy anymore new Blu-ray movies.

Ya well I can certainly respect that perspective, you want something you've invested in to succeed. if BR wins the war, I don't know if a BR version of 360 is *that* far fetched either, assuming costs bottom out fairly quickly.

It's the nice thing about MS's position, is they have that flexibility, not sure if they'll use it though, or just be stubborn and stick with the losing format if HD-DVD does indeed lose out.

I don't think you could fit the multiple DVD's on the DVD layer of a hybrid HD-DVD.
The DVD layer of the hybrid disc is just the size of a standard single layer DVD, i.e. 4.7 GB

Different content limited to the layer - interesting didnt realize the 4.7gb limitation. Could use single disc double sided as is used by hundreds of movies today. Should remove this limitation yes?

Kinda vitiates the whole point of a hybrid disc then.
It's almost the same if you need to change the disc or flip it over.
The price of such a hybrid disc would likely be a bit higher than if you'd buy it in a DVD or HD-DVD, at least if the current HD-DVD movie hybrid disc pricing is any reference ($27 vs. $40).

This concept as has been discussed would only be an option years down the road when/if pricing of the media is no longer an issue. WRT "flipping the disc", you wouldn't need to flip it at all. If you have the hddvd drive 360, you place the disc in face up. If you have the standard dvd 360, you place the disc face down.

More expensive than regular disc? yes. worth the price to not confuse the market (shelf space)? yes.

Nah, if you have a HD-DVD drive you can put the disk in either way as the drive can read same content off either side, which invalidates any point in having the HD-DVD anyway. ;)

No, I'm not going to dig up a link for you to proof that HD-DVD drives can read DVD format, feel free to Google that one on your own.

I'm aware of this and I already stated this option earlier in this thread. You stated hddvd could read data of either side which at the time sounded as though you were suggesting hddvd drives come standard with the ability to read both sides without the need to flip the disc, hence, "link?"

As has already been mentioned as well by RR, the layer will only hold 4.7 which in an instance that this is not enough room, one could simply put the data on a double sided disc with hddvd content on one side and dvd on the other.

Are disc like that even made yet? Is that even possible?

Should be possible from what I've seen "in the works" so to speak but this is all theoretical based on a victory of the underdog optical format years down the road.

It is a dvd with the 10th anniversary release (Myst, Riven, Myst III ). :)

Nono, this was at the time of release of Riven, but yah I remember hearing about that all in one package. I'm still debating on picking it up for nostalgia sakes. :)
