Sony=ROCKY...I think so

It is very obvious that i have a thing for Sony. I've been buying their products for years and although bias, i can put feelings aside and have rational discussions from time to time. Basically, this thread is just collected thoughts and predictions now that i have enough info to see where things are heading.

1. It seems things are looking up for sony's handheld in Japan:A title that stayed on charts for 4 weeks:rolleyes: . I'm sure Sony sees what's going on and will take action accordingly, in other words more games like that in japan! The U.S. is a different story. We tend to like action so games like g.t.a., socom, and syphon filter grabs our attention. Sony, where are the sequels? Once the inevitable happens, which i think is soon, software sales will spike, followed by hardware.

2.Sony has said some outrageous comments no doubt and has since paid for them dearly. That said, the seamingly endless borage of attacks left Sony no choice but to humble themself and right their wrongs. Things like adding vibration, building software support, creating FREE top quailty online services, and possibly lowering cost shows that their mentality of "fans will buy anything we throw at them" are at an end. Now i'm not saying they don't have motives of making a profit. All i'm saying is that now they realize their customer have a brains and won't put up with their shit;)and now we're getting what we deserve.

Perdictions: My guess is that Sony's fruits won't be unrewarded. Sony in japan will see a steady increase in profit due to finding japan's sweet spot. No doubt japan will love home enough to slowly but surely lossen the handheld grip. That was bold to say but at this point Sony has nowhere to go but up.:smile: All the buzz will spill to the U.S. catching japan enthusiasts first until it's entirely in the spotlight(before it's fully released). E3 has a role too with showings of Killzone, Socom, MGS 4, all the heavy hitters but more importantly 1st and 2nd party titles. God of war 3 will make a showing in some form and everyone shouts yay at sight. Mgs 4 more importantly will completely silence e3...for better or worse either by delay or something else. By the time fall hits Sony would have dropped the price of PS3 $100, just in time for home, gta4, killzone, Socom5, and some other great but unannounced titles. Readeption!;)

Good post - I like it! Another thing I didn't think of until this post is "Home" in Japan. I think you may be spot on with this being a big hit there.

I Like the optimism on the release dates but I'm not so sure all those will hit this year. ;)

That's my biggest concern for Sony is "too little, too late"

Well that's what i meant in the thread name, I think just that in the rocky movies there's still a chance to come out better than you came in(and i mean E3 '05).;)Look at PSP in japan.

Please dont take this the wrong way, as I think the psp is a beautifull piece of hardware, but if it took over 2.5 years for 1 game to stay on the charts so long and now more titels like that have to come I think its safe to say the PSP is a failure regarding offering games handheld psp gamers want. Sony and 3rd party devs basically treated the psp as a ps2 port platform for 99% of the time and sony never really tried to get the PSP a good amount of true psp games after the DS walked right over the psp.

Perdictions: My guess is that Sony's fruits won't be unrewarded. Sony in japan will see a steady increase in profit due to finding japan's sweet spot. Wich fruits and wich sweetspot? I dont want to sound offending but isnt it a bit obvious Sony dont know what Japan wants for quite some time no? looking at the succes of the DS and in a lesser extent the Wii. I doubt something like home would really change alot. Besides I dont really think Japanese are that interrested in a communitie talk with your friends in a home kind of non game. Especially not on a home console as it seems currently they are alot more interrested in portable gaming.

I agree with that, those titels will make a big impact though I still think the price will be hurting them. No matter how you look at it, it are the casuals that make up the bigger part of the market and I just dont see how they will suddenly spend 560 euro's to play gta on ps3 while they could also do it for alot less on x360.

Truth is PSP fans don't know what they want from it. It's clear they don't want what's out but they still don't know. A suitable psp game wasn't realized until now in japan and Sony most likely has a better grasp on things...atleast i hope they do. It seems they are (trying) to turn things around.

The hardware was already out, do you expect them to scrap it and move on? No one expected nintendogs or brain-age to do what it did. It was a risk Nintendo made (abandoning gameboy fans) that paid off. If you ask me nintendo played off the fact they had inferior hardware and by stating their handheld was was on a different path, people fell in. It's Sony risk and we'll see what happens next. My reasoning on thinking HOME will be successful is based on the handhelds. Pokemon brought plenty of people togather. So have games with heavy customization. Just look at that mech game in japan, so you're entitled to your own opinion but i would have to beg to differ.

You're getting more than a game console so i don't want to hear that. There's other things to look forward to than 3rd party games. RFOM has done really well in the U.S. and i think when the heavy hitters come in and for the price of $500 plus home, i think things will be interesting to say the least...

I hope not like Rocky V :D

Adriaaaaan! :LOL:

{que theme music}

In another industry I think there would be a fair bit of potential in this outcome and strategy. However in the games industry of 5 year life cycles, time is of the essence...

Rocky needs to come out swingin this E3! I look forward to round 3. :smile:

Let's just say i'm unreasonably optimistic!

It is worth pointing out that the word 'Rocky' has other meanings... In the UK (my birthplace) it can be used to refer to something that's unstable :eek:

heheheh ... in the US it does as well but strangely I knew exactly what the title was refering to. :smile:

You might get more, but thats not what the far majority of buyer will eventually be buying a ps3 for. They will be buying it for the games. That you get a mediacentrish console at the some time wont matter for the most peopl so they wont relate that to the price.

I hear ya. It's hard to keep this unrelenting optimism knowing what's going on. But i have faith in not Sony or PS3 but customer's sense of judgement. I really hope people smarten up are realize what they're buying instead of grasping for trends. PS3 is awsome hardware and potenical. And yes i know that Sony probity should'nt have charged so much/put in so much (for/in) their console. This is exactly why it's in this tight spot now, no one wants to pay $600+ for a game console. But it's not like the price isn't justifiable. I sure hope they can pull this off.
