Sony PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)

So I can talk about this headset now.

The headset is great . It is certainly a jump up from the current headsets and the visuals are amazing. The headset fit pretty well on my head and i could wear it for long periods of time. The controllers felt nice in my hands also. The only con is the narrower fov vs the index. But in terms of headset vs headset (not including controllers) if this released on the pc it be a clear win over the index in every way which to me is the best pc headset right now. Later this month maybe not so much.

You got to give the thing a spin? And yeah, the Index should technically be inferior, quite alot since its a early 2019 VR headset. Things shouldve improved almost four years on, in special in that space.

Wait whats that?

Yes I got to play with it twice. I happen to know someone making a game for it. And yea of course at this point things should have improved past the index. I am just saying right now pound for pound that is the best pc headset.

I got this one at home already

Of course there's going to be better on PC. That's an ever evolving landscape with far more frequent iterations over console hardware. The take-home here is where PSVR was good enough for a budget but far from high-end, PSVR2 is launching at high(er)-end standards meaning a far better and more approachable VR experience on console than we've had before. I literally couldn't use PSVR properly as it didn't fit my eyes and I couldn't focus properly, so it never felt like I was in the space. Whereas it sounds like this'll work really well for pretty much anyone, meaning those who couldn't get the full immersion experience of true VR should be able to get it this time around.

Without the option to use 3rd party VR headsets, this is the only option console gamers have, and thankfully it's sounding like a really good. If it was heavily compromised, console gamers would be stuck with one not-great option only.

Another interesting difference this time around is PSVR won't be the market leader in install base by a long stretch, so it'll be taking ports. Anyone know what the lead VR platform is these days? Could Sony bring their AAA strategy to the broader VR market leveraging cross-platform to get a large enough market to justify it? PSVR2's install base will be relatively small for exclusives.

I'm actually not convinced the experience on PC will be better at all. Even if the headsets are technically superior, how well will things like foveated rendering and haptics be integrated with the software? I hope the PC solutions can pull it out of the bag there because I really don't want to have to get a PS5 for my VR needs, but if the best experience available is on the PS5 then I may just have to.

I still think psvr2 will still be the best, in term of comfort.

Even Samsung odyssey that have the same design as psvr was still less comfortable.

I can't wait to get asleep in psvr2 and woke up confused in vr

So far PSVR2 is sharing the top-end with highend PCVR headsets, however those are quite old (index-2019 for example). Anyway, Sony should have the PSVR2 pc compatible and throw exclusives at it, the broaden the market. PSVR2 will be as niche as its predecessor otherwise, at best. Its probably going to sell even less since theres not so many ps5 owners out there, coupled with that the psvr2 is probably going to be more costly, in a recessed market.

yes it will be interesting to see how Sony approach PSVR2 on PC. Now that they've opened themselves up tot he PC market there's obviously a much better chance we'll see those Sony VR games on PC (assuming they open the headset up to PC as well). Given it was probably a big expense for them to develop, and how as you say there will likely be quite a niche market for it on PS5, I can certainly see the motivation there for them to release it on PC as well. But they'll have to decide whether they feel the impact on the PS5 itself of doing that is a sacrifice worth paying. PSVR2 may well be a big system seller. But then would releasing it on PC as well really eat into those sales? Hard to say.

Probably not, PS gamers will game on playstation and PC gamers on pc. Some users might shift here and there, but thats not really many i think. Wont be much of a sacrifice either, as i dont think PSVR2 BOM will be much higher if higher at all over the final consumer price.
Bringing over PSVR to PC would be the same thing basically as the normal PS games and pheripals like the controllers etc.

The difference is so massive in resolution and controlers that I realy think is not that bad thing. Casual players would be shocked how blury psvr1 games are trying it on psvr2. Tough hope older bigger games like Re7, Astrobot or Hitman3 got psvr2 support.

Its considerable amount of effort to 'VR' a game, dont expect every game to have a VR version. On PC its usually mod teams who lay crazy amounts of time on such 'ports'.
