Sony PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)

q1 2023 is for sure too soon for ps5pro but like idea

Maybe not q1, but perhaps the latter half of 2023? We would be two years in which equals late 2015 for the PS4.... would call it abit early still. Maybe 2024. But who knows, Sony seems much more serious on VR now, and the requirements for VR are very high. A 20TF PS5 Pro, more ram and higher clocked CPU on improved process node, aswell as a larger internal SSD could very well happen. it is very likely since the Pro was doing quite well, atleast that was my impression. The pro was for 4k, the PS5 Pro could be for VR and native resolutions at 4k. Seems reasonable.

If there wasnt covid I would guess they will release it like ps4pro so 3 years after basic model premiere (q4 2023 in this case) but all is now postpone

Nah the Pro will be for 4k/60 raytraced lighting and shadows and perhaps 4k/120 without ;). Fortunately that also covers any useful PSVR2 improvements …

oh too much expectation imo, 4k 60 sure but 4k 60 + rt with some dlss amd/sony equivalent more realistic

As snc mentioned, too high expectations. Unless AMD has hardware acceleration going on, aswell has hw accelerated reconstruction and a solid software solution for RDNA3+ products. I think realistic is higher resolutions (perhaps native 4k at 60fps), but no improvements to ray tracing. The latter may be more intresting when PS6 comes around, they need to reserve some improvements for that generation too (i still think there will be another generation before streaming takes over).

4K 60 on PS5 and 4K 60 + RT on PS5 Pro with dedicated (and improved) RT hardware ?

By the way they already use CBR on PS5 with RT which seems like an excellent way to use CBR rendering. They don't need DLSS on consoles as for now DLSS need big and expensive GPUs that can brute force it.

4K 60 on PS5

Its not even doing that now natively. UE5 games and your looking at way below 4k at 30fps.

By the way they already use CBR on PS5 with RT which seems like an excellent way to use CBR rendering.

Depending on the implementation and how accurate and crisp you want things. Checkerboarding is a compromise between quality and performance, more so than more modern and advanced reconstruction methods (which often apply not just to reflections).

They don't need DLSS on consoles as for now DLSS need big and expensive GPUs that can brute force it.

DLSS has little to do with brute-forcing, theres where hardware acceleration comes into play.

cb sometimes works quite good (gow, death stranding, tsushima etc) sometimes not (rdr2, forbiden west, marvel avengers) but even when works is not on pair with dlss so disagree, also rtx 2060 and rtx3050 has dlss support so not only big and expensive gpu

I am talking about using it for RT rendering like Ratchet. As the specific rendering with RT are hiding the artefacts very well. Again, you need brute force for DLSS the current consoles completely lack. DLSS as it is on big Nvidia GPUs won't happen on PS5 and XSX. Besides DLSS is still not perfect and can have very ugly artefacts and flaws in some cases.

IF foveated rendering is working well, that alone should cover any hardware deficit in having to render the same game twice. A larger die is going to require more fans which'll clash with the silicon shortage, and make PS5Pros even rarer than PS5's!

but we talking here about hypothetical ps5pro (btw xsx in int8 is not far from rtx2060 so possbile in future to have some dlss like solution on it)
