Sony Gamescom 2013 conference

I wouldn't worry about PS4 games being unplayable at this point. Most are rather traditional core games. No motion control acrobatics. No esoteric cloud adventures. Just good old MP gaming + sharing.

PS4 is a lot easier to program than PS3 too ! And the western console developers are all familiar with GPU programming. If a shooter can hit RFOM level of fun, or an RPG can hit Demon's Souls level of intensity, I will be more than satisfied. Are the games fun ?

I would worry more about PS3 back-compat via Gaikai. In general, anything surrounding Gaikai needs more attention because it's new territory at this scale. It may look simple from the outside but it's not easy to pull off.

But isn't it strange that we have people making up crap about a PS4 October launch and X1 yield problems and yet MS is the one with playable units and tons of software on the show floor and unboxing vids?

Well... There were also rumors about MS paying publishers to shut up about PS4 games.

Even if we ignore all these rumors, the developers will have to put up their best show.
Coz if they can't, I see $5-10 bucks games in their future.

It may not be so obvious now, but the sentiment will turn quickly when other folks jump in for a swim in the industry.

In what way? That seems typical to me given how populace vocalisation tends to follow patterns. It'd only be odd if you believed Sony were in trouble and were running a FUD campaign.

But again, I ask you to link to info about a lack of playable PS4 games at Gamescom. I can't find anything about what's showing on the floor. All Google throws up is reference to the conference. Bing's no better.

But all the playable units on the show floor appear to be PC's... Check out the twitter pick for Titanfall, just rows of PC's. Might even be the PC version of Titanfall for all we know. There is nothing to suggest that MS is anywhere further advanced than Sony is. According to the majority of the Devs it's the other way around with Sony having the far more mature tool chain etc.

I've already asked Mr. Awesome for the link to this info that PS4's aren't showing and XB1's are. He must have read it somewhere. :)???:) I trust he'll respond when he gets chance. I can't find any info on what's actually present on the show floor from searches.

YT only shows gameplay footage from driveclub, knack and war thunder, at least that is what i see..

Eurogamer claims 33 titles within 2013 for the PS4, and considering that the PS4 will be in 31 countries i wouldn't worry if i was Sony. The XB1 launch list in my country is ZERO in 2013 compared to 33, including digital small indy titles, that is a grand slam :-/

There's 180 titles in development for PS4, but I'm much more excited about specific games from my favorite studios than the "number" of titles.

With so many AAA exclusives being released on PS3 this year, these studios/teams have yet to announce their upcoming PS4 games, but we know they'll deliver great titles. Hopefully there will be more reveals at TGS... :D

There was a tour of the showroom the night before the conference you can see here. The games given in that list were these:

Playable by public:
AC4 Black Flag
War Thunder
Blacklight Retribution
Knack
Octodad
Contrast
Hohokum
Drive Club
Playroom

Demo :
Watchdog
Killzone Shadowfall

At very least all of those that are playable by the public were supposed to be on actual PS4 systems.

Others on the floor:

Infamous SS
Resogun

Unsure which platforms were playable on:

Destiny
NFS
The Crew

The truth is, all the multiplatform games are either being shown or played on PS4 or PC in every demo or vid since and before E3. And first party launch games have all been playable in various pre alpha/beta states for quite some time.

Where's proof of this???

I'd guess the reality is most of the stuff is on PC to next gen spec. That's reality and the path of least resistance for developers. As we move even close to launch we will see more stuff running directly on target hardware.

Unlike many others I dont tend to think it's some game of "gotcha" either. These games arent going to magically look worse on final console hardware. Many of them dont look to push the hardware that much to begin with.

That is a lot of err...indies/F2P. The superior version of those will be on Windows PC.

Anyways it's surprising some website doesn't throw up a report of what is playable and appears to be running on what system. Obviously a fair amount of niche forumgoers are interested.

We saw plenty of devkits on the floor @ E3. We even had proof that they crashed to the PS4 UI (as opposed to Windows on some other crashes). You must be blind or actively trying not to see these happening.

To "NOT" be a PC or PS4 devkit they have to be a Xbox One Devkit or a WiiU. So far I don't think we've seen any definitive proof that any multi-platforms ran on either an Xbox One or a WiiU.

At the very least we've seen the games filled with PS face buttons which would pretty much rule out they're done on Xbox Dev kits. WiiU wouldn't even run these games so that's also out of the picture.

We of course don't have to remind everybody of the BF4 showing that was easily picked out as running on PCs.

This statement turns complete moot and harms another console even more if we apply it to something like Titanfall.
Superior version of that will run on PCs without a doubt.

Does that fact make you think lower of the title? I wouldn't think so.

Yeah, just like minecraft is superior on the pc? It just proves that it's not the same market.

You seem very very critical when it comes to the ps4? I wouldn't be concerned if I were you. The ps3 launched with worse games at a higher price a year later and still managed to go head to head with the 360. Even if your assessment is right and people won't buy those games because they are better on the pc, the ps4 should be doing fine.

It has zero competition in many of the 31 countries where it launches, it could have one game in those and still be unchallenged. And the titles that are launch titles is more than enough unless you expect people to spend more than 200 dollars on games on the first day.

We only play Minecraft on the iPad. ^_^
Minecraft on the Playstation would work too. No Windows PC at home except for my wife's work laptop.

Psssst, I think you got the quote wrong. I didn't write that stuff. :)

And the fact Minecraft is superior on PC was certainly brought up plenty of times on the internet, so I'm not sure why the same point one time would offend you in this case...

Kotaku has a story about Skylanders being shown on PS4, and we've heard BF4 is being shown on PS4, too. Don't know if either or both of those are behind doors.
