The investment firm Nomura is also predicting a price-cut within the current financial year. It also suggests that Sony has sold 3m of the 6m PS3's it has manufactured to date:

Is there a possibility to connect a usb external HDD to a PS3?

Becouse then they could release bigger sized HDDs (3.5 HDDs) much cheaper.

If Sony has really only sold half their production, it could be cheaper for them to move theses units with a price cut than keeping them in the ditribution channel, and same time it should help a lot their marketshare.
