Some Ninty tidbits...

Got this from an N rep.

1. Nintendo just started work on the Wii's successor a couple weeks ago. (ironically revealed this while talking about NDAs and how he can't talk about it... )

2. The Wii's projected life cycle is 4 to 5 years as to be expected.

3. Super Mario Galaxy is only the name of the tech demo/test build. Take from that what you will.

4. Retro's going to be doing Metroid Prime FOREVER and EVER. Nintendo doesn't want anyone else to do the series.

5. Wii has sold/shipped 4 million (internationally I believe).

6. There are no plans for Virtual Console to host originally developed content, despite previous statements.

Aren't these claims effectively contradictory? I doubt Wii2 needs as much engineering work as PS4 or X720.

The engineering might not be hard, but there are a lot of decisions like how expensive they want it to be, whether to stick with the Wii-mote, which companies to go with etc. that they need to plan ahead for.

And I doubt Nintendo has as many engineers on it as Microsoft, or God forbid, Sony. Besides, even if they think they only need 2 years, what should they do, pull the release of the next one earlier, or release the engineering team into a 1-year vacation?

No, the time it takes to engineer a system is only one part of the whole thing. Products lifecycle is calculated on it's ability to turn profit. Fastening the product cycles would be a large risk for Nintendo, even if they are making money on the hardware from day 1, it's still the software that brings the meat to the table.

Nintendo has publicly stated that they usually always start on the next console right after they launch a new one. This isn't news. So far we know it will be small, lowpower and support HD.

Oh, one more thing I just remembered. Channels are free for now, but Nintendo will start charging for them soon.

Do you have any source for that statement?

Nobody's gonna pay even a cent for the bloody weather channel or surfing the web badly on wii when they can get either much quicker better and in higher quality from any regular PC. For free.

Can yhou imagine paying for the voting channel? No I didn't fthink so either.

Peace.

i may sound sarcastic but i would be surprised if wii successor wasn't native HD... after all, by that time i expect at least 67.25% of households to have an HDTV or more!

there are already groups taking up arms against the Wii because it's a porno gateway
I envy their page impressions as much as I bemoan the collective empty spaces between their collective ear pairs.
The Wii really can't do anything "evil" that a PC could not do. The demon is, as usual, the internet per se, and not so much a genuinely harmless means of access.
