70" SXRD is the QualiaSony may also be releasing a 70" SXRD set but I haven't seen anything confirming that yet.
Delivering upon the the games they have shown. (meaning im more impressed with the titles on the ps3 side than the ms side, thats what it really comes down to, what games do you want to play more)Powderkeg said:Out of curiosity, precisely what do you think Sony will be doing this gen that MS will not?

It just really matters if the final games will be on par or better than what they have shown.
once again im talking about the titles. the ps3 has the exclusive titles id like to play more than the 360 exclusives. its like everyone waiting and wanting to play halo 3; same thing but for me its tekken or mgs4.Powderkeg said:But considering that you haven't actually seen any PS3 games, how can you make that judgement?
im talking about the showings from all the conferences and what not. the titles just appeal to me more. many were cgi/rendered, yes, but from what we have been getting lately it looks like all those showings wont be too far off the mark.Delivering upon the the games they have shown
Dr Evil said:Why?, I'm sure all the games are going to be in 720p. You'l be better off, buying 720p display for now, as they are quite cheap, and use it for few years and then upgrade to 1080p.
I'm going to buy X360 close to launch, I'm not sure though am I going to import it or not.
london-boy said:Well i'm not only buying an HDTV just for consoles you know, in fact i'd imagine most of my HDTV time will be spent with HDDVD/BlueRay which apparently have native resolutions of 1080i/p.
Unless my financial situation changes dramatically, i don't imagine shelling out a lot of money for all new HDTVs ever 2 years or so. My HDTV will have to last me A LONG time.
Dunno, i don't see why spend lots of money on a 720p set when next-gen-DVDs will be best seen at a resolution with 1920 horizontal pixels instead of 1280. It's a big diference to me, whether it's 1080i or p.
Acert93 said:Could I suggest that instead of locking yourself into 720p or 1080i, instead get the best HDTV set for the money. Go look at some sets (preferrably in natural lighting, mess with the color, etc), find a half dozen you like in your price range and then go read some reviews--a couple for each set. Setup the pros and cons, and the bang for buck and then go back and view the sets again.
My reasoning is that depending on the technology you may notice different things (e.g. that an interlaced image annoys you). And seeing in person is important. But don't trust your own eyes in a show room... so definately read up on the sets.
Most people have a hard time telling the difference between the two. Most sets have decent scaler units and both offer not only better resolution but also widescreen--not to mention superior inputs.
My personal preferance is a progressive scan image. It appears more "sharp" to me and flickers less.
1080p is the sweet spot, but even that has not officially adpoted 60fps yet (at least the last time I checked).
Anyhow, be careful. Not all HDTVs display what you would think. e.g. a recent thread discussed someones 1080i set and it said it displayed like 90% of the verticle pixels (540 * 90% = ~480). So you had there basically a standard TV interlaced!
So just find something that looks great *to your eye* and be happy with it
Personally... I would say wait for 1080p HDMI sets to drop in price and use your PC monitor for a year
london-boy said:The problem with me is that even 1080i will need a set capable of 1920 horizontal lines. All HDTV released here are 720p/1080i but not true 1080i because these sets only have 1280 horizontal lines. That's a big difference, much bigger than the 720p/1080i difference in vertical resolution.
So in the end, i might just wait for the 1080p ones.
wco81 said:I guess the big push for HDTV in Europe will come just before WC.
By then 1080p sets will not necessarily be plentiful nor cheap. Nor devoid of compromises like 1080p inputs.
They will probably broadcast in 720p or 1080i so any 1080p screen would have to upconvert.
Of course, you hope by this time a year from now, the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players will be out and some titles and players will actually be outputting 1080p.
Dr Evil said:Then what you "must" do is buy some small monitor or something to get the best out of next gen!. This is nitpicking and I know that you know your stuff, but there are 1080 horizontal lines in 1080p and i, and that is the vertical resolution, now on each of those lines there are 1920 pixels.
