Silicon Knights licence UE3!

Don't you mean Eternal Darkness 2 on PS3? Or perhaps 360. And on a related news, the USA also recently license UE3.

I thought Silicon Knights were Nintendo's property? Could be wrong, but i was quite sure....

AFAIK Silicon Knights are making games for PS3/XBox360 and Revolution. They're not owned by Nintendo, they just chose to work exclusively on GC this generation.

Oh right. Well, better then! :D

They used to be Nintendo's second party developer, but no longer. Though no internal details were released.

Silicon Knights is working for a next-generation project for Sega at the moment, they have a new publishing deal. It might even include more than one title.

Another dev have licensed UE3 (never heard of them before).

So, now we can pretty much rest assured that next gen consoles will be more or less at UE3 level of graphics, memory restrictions permitting. Less textures (and lower res ones) but a major bump in poly counts. Console games always push more polygons than the PC counterparts out at the same time, as a general rule, obviously due to the usual common-denominator attitude PC developers need to keep. And i can't wait to see the results!

I expect Better ,UE3 is far from being the fastest engine to do what it does. And good game artists IS a condition .

As i said, i also expect poly counts to go up from what we've seen on the UE3. Though texture-wise, things will have to be toned down.

Animation wise, well that's up to the devs, some are just better than others.

That would be assuming polygon storage doesn't use memory? :p
If you already stuffed your memory full of textures there won't be any room left for polygon bumping (obviously this balancing will depend on each individual project).

Sure, i wasn't trying to say that they will just exchange textures for polygons, however i just have the feeling that on consoles, things will be more focused on geometry first and foremost. Just a feeling.

I'm sure advanced texture compression will be used a lot on the next gen consoles, so they don't necessarily have to tone them down that much, atleast for a while, eventually PC:s will be too powerful for consoles to make identical versions of a game.

Huxley has a lot less polygonal detail than any of the PC-demoed UE3 stuff. Then again, it is supposed to be massively multiplayer.

As far as I know thye are only working on X360 at the moment.

Yeah serious development has only taken place on 360 so far since they've had 360 dev kits for a while. But Dennis has indicated that they're current project will target all next gen systems.
