Silent Hill3 OMG!

I tried my QuickTime 6 import/export to MPEG-4, but I can't get it to carry the audio track.

What was the source file?

edit: and BTW, the MPEG-4 encoder in QuickTime 6 is not good, the dynamics of the picture is runied from its output comparing to MPEG-2 counterpart.

Yes that's pretty well known. It's just a simple profile encoder so you can generate MP4 files from it. You should get the 3ivx component for it since that gives you a better encoder and it comes with a DirectShow filter for MP4 (uses FAAD2 for the AAC portions) so you can play them in Media Player...

Encoding with VirtualDub [GPL]:

Indeed, VirtualDub is not really new to me, I tried DivX before, though not Xvid. I don't like its quality.

VdubMod is actually a niftier version... I prefer XviD myself as well, but you've gotta me using the later versions (either Nic's latest build, or Koepi's CVS builds (or your own if you're on a different platform), and it takes a little more forsight and knowledge to make XviD shine. I consider DivX for folks who only want to do a couple of button clicks and be done with it). Also, one other cool tool to have is AVIsynth... Media Player Classic is my favourite player to use as well since it handles OGM and Mastroika files more gracefully...

Converted to Xvid with VirtualDub at the same 800Kbps rate, the colours look pale comparing to the 800Kbps MPEG-2, file size being similar.

This is indeed very odd since XviD has the natural tendency to darken and increase the contrast of content (a known issue)...

800Kbps VBR MPEG-2 Video, 192Kbps MPEG Layer 2 Audio.

It recognise audio when I give it uncompressed AVI.

In the advanced options I have VHQ - Wide Search and Motion Search at Ultra High. Quantisation type at default H.263, 1 pass quality at 100, 1 Pass CBR set to 842Kbps. VirtualDub Color depth at 24bits.

Not sure about that, this is the first time I ever use Xvid, I only work with MPEG-1/2 for video productions and tried Divx before.

The MPEG-2 files from TMPGEnc Plus is indeed pretty ok comparing to the uncompressed AVI, the files are from 2 pass VBR with average bit rate 800Kbps (max 2Mbps), High quality motion search.

Does the game still have Dolby surround sound effects like Silent Hill 2?
SH2 had some kind of pseudo surround produced through the stereo speakers. I think SH3 does the same just using different technology. I have yet to try to switch my amp to surround mode and see how it sounds on all the speakers..

Marconelly or somebody else, can someone answer my question??

I didn't sense any difference in the sound field (using a headphone) during view point change in SH3, footsteps still sound the same in any angle and position.

SH2 used that surround effect sparingly, so it's probably the same with SH3. I remember noticing it in some locations with lots of monsters around me though.

Xbox version? It was in plain stereo from what I remember. Didn't even have that pseudo 3D effect.

Tell that to my rear left and right speakers ;) You can definitely hear it big time in the jail level. 4.1 though :?

Can you double check that for me (I don't have the game anymore)? I really thought it was plain stereo, and several people I talked about that, agreed.

Can you also check if that's not some kind of output that gets exactly the same signal on front left and rear left speaker?

Will do, but not right now, just came in and am very drunk :?

a bit late on lipsyncing, but just had to add this: IMHO, Baulders Gate had some of the best lipsyncing I've seen in a game thus far. Also the movement of the characters was mighty impressive... :p

By: D. F. Smith September 17, 2003 6:06 PM PDT

Silent Hill is on its way to the silver screen, publisher Konami announced today. Producer Samuel Hadida and Davis Films have picked up the rights to the popular horror adventure series and signed director Christophe Gans, of Brotherhood of the Wolf and Crying Freeman.

"Silent Hill is a groundbreaking game with an atmosphere that has mesmerized millions of gamers all over the world - it is scary and clever," said Gans. "I am very proud to be associated with this game."

Though the announcement omits any mention of budget or scheduling details, Konami staff will apparently be involved in the film's production. Konami staff will oversee script development, assist with the design of the film's human and monstrous cast, and collaborate on soundtrack composition.

Konami's announcement also mentions that it is pursuing film deals for other videogame franchises, which naturally gives rise to speculation regarding many different possible projects. We'll keep an eye out for news of such in the near future.
Bold text == YAY :D

Great ! There will be another soundtracks from Yamaoka san. My collection of SH series OST is complete, and also my collection of released SH games will be completed soon. Heh !

I am not very excited about the movie, though. I am disappointed everytime I see CG/Anime turned to human in the movie. I'd rather see a rendered movie for SH, the original characters can all be there without change (or with even higher detail).

Here's hoping for a SH2/SH3 horror hybrid type of movie, and not a zombie blasting Resident Evil wanna-be.

*shudders @ House of the Dead movie*

Heh ! I have the answer to this question as I have almost all versions of the X-BOX version SH2, from the Dolby logo at the back of the Japanese and UK PAL version, the game is using 4.0 channels. Take a look at the square with 4 points on near the Dolby Digital logo.

The games that runs in 5.1 will have a 5.1 logo.

Maskrider,

Sorry to nitpick, but she says "See, I'm real"..with a contraction :p

I love that scene, and it's like someone misquoting Shakespere ;)

Yes, you are right. I mis-typed this time.

I have typed "I'm" before in the Silent Hill forum, but may be alcohol influenced me and I typed "I am" here.

Thank you, it is corrected.
