Silent Hill

So, has anyone seen it yet? I've heard mixed things from what I've read, however Penny Arcade's review seemed a bit negative. The points touched on really do grate my nerves.

Looking for opinions...

Heh, a bit negative? Looks to me like Tycho went full out into his drama queen mode. Yeah, it deviated from the story of the game quite a bit; but it also added some explanation to a few things in the games, gave a new perspective on the story, and left quite a bit up to interpretation as well. I'd likely have done things a bit different if I had creative control over the project, but all the same I think they made a valiant effort at compressing the many hours of game's story down to a ~2 hour film and telling a story it in its own context so that it can be accepted without having played the games yet still putting a lot into it for those of us who have. At least in my eyes they had a very delecate line they had to walk in order to put this story in a theater and I think they did a commendable job.

It was good not great. The stuf that you wanted to see doesn't last long. I wasn't scared but there were really tense moments.

Pyramid Head rocks. But plays a cameo role almost, as do all the other monsters. Be prepared for some crappy acting and dialogue. But it is well within the spirit of Silent Hill which is why I liked it.

Better than Resident Evil IMO.

When it comes to horror movies, don't trust anybody else but horror movie reviewers. ;)

A movie should be a good movie, regardless of genre.

Yep, but there are many reviewers who don't like, or understand, horror movies. For example, I don't like The English Patient, it's not my cup of tea, if I were to review it I wouldn't give it a good score.
