SciFi channel sucks

Brent

Regular
why do they always take the good series off their lineup

i'm a little ticked at them right now for pulling Roswell right in the middle of season 2, and replace it with the original star trek

i used to watch roswell back on the WB, then when it moved over to UPN, but i missed a lot of episodes, i was really looking forward to watching it all the way through again on the SciFi channel

they ran it from the pilot show up to the middle of the second season then dropped the show! right there in the middle of it, just quit

bah, scifi channel can majorly suck sometimes

my rant for the day :devilish:

How could it suck when they have that psychic show on? Certainly with that guy on their team, they know what you want.

As long as they keep Stargate SG-1 on I'm happy :)

That show is like a drug for me.. and there are few things hotter than an attractive female theoretical physicist!

I'm a HUGE SG1 fan as well, I'm glad they agreed to carry the last season of it.

I'm beginning to think Brent and I were separated at birth...

SciFi is the ultimate suck right now for the big reason (Farscape) but I was a big Roswell fan back in the day, and I was so happy they were carying it. I've never really gotten into SG-1, and I think I see them in a bad light because of all the speculation that SciFi sorta picked them up at the expense of Farscape. Ah well, now my hopes are on some kinda TV movie... or at least buying all the DVD's...

btw Brent, a lot of people are very happy that you are still sticking to the image quality difference in the 320-330 patch, good job man. :D

ok scifi has sucked a bit lately, but remember that they have the dune mini series, which gives them lots of points.
If they could have really been a pure scifi channel then it would rock.

They need to pick up FIREFLY, FARSCAPE, and maybe some more shows that needed a bit more of a chance.

Ahh firefly, what a show. Damn you fox.

They've just started showing Firefly here in the UK and I can't say I'm overly impressed with it so far. I suppose it's OK, but there are too many fundamental flaws both scientific and otherwise in the whole premise. They've only shown about 4 episodes so far, though, so I suppose there is time for improvement.

@mariner: what episode did they start off with. Ther real 2 hour pilot(which was shown here only at the end of the series), or the replacement/hacked train heist episode. Truly the show was fantastic, please tell what you find unrealistic, not scientifically correct.
Many people have found this series more correct than any star wars/trek episode. Example, no sound in space, you never here the ship make any noise when the shoot is taken from outside. Which is what really happens.

It did start off with two one hour episodes (the story of the Doctor & his sister etc.). The next episode was the train-robbery and the one shown earlier this week was finding the derelict vessel with all the corpses + loony bloke.

A few of the problems for me from the first few episodes:

They've been to a few planets/moons so far, all of which have earth-type gravity/climate etc. Not too likely, even with 'terraforming' mentioned. Are all of these worlds in the same planetary system? If not, how do they manage to travel between different stars? FTL travel? Not mentioned so far. I assume that they have anti-gravity devices and something to control inertia - this would explain why there is no zero-g in space and they don't appear to be affected by blasting-off planets at high speed/fast turns etc.

For a cargo ship - where's the cargo?!? So far all they've done in the (tiny) cargo hold is have a couple of gun-battles/fights etc. When they do manage to salvage anything it's a couple of boxes of stuff that can be carried by hand. The fact that the trading ship isn't big enough to carry anything to trade does make you wonder.

How did Sergeant Whatshisname (now the Captain) come to own the spaceship? I'd imagine they would still be pretty expensive items in the milieu in which Firefly is set.

I'd certainly hope that when they start making spacecraft such as Firefly, they'd make it out of a substance which wasn't prone to rusting! I mean, most of the surfaces are covered in rust - hardly comforting when thinking about keeping an atmospheric seal.

We know that you can't hear sound in space so I can't say it bothers me if films want to put explosions or noises to enliven the cold space scenes - it's all cosmetic.

Those are just a few of the thoughts I have about Firefly. Certainly it's not too bad but I can't say I'm overly taken with it.

I had many similar thoughts about the show at first, but in the end I thought it was pretty good none the less. The show is not exactly the easiest to get into, it has to grow on you over a couple of eps, at least that's how I felt ("meh" at the begining, "awww" when I reached the last episode). What did it for me were the characters, IMO there's some fairly intense and interesting character stuff in the later episodes, way beyond the off-the-shelf characters that most shows today have...

ok, you havent gotten far enough to appreciate it. the episodes get alot better, many of the things you ask for will be delivered. However not everything is as the season ended prematurely.

double damn you fox.
