It's 2007.

mb = nForce6
dvd = pioner 212d
os = vista64 or even winxp

I insert a DVD and no matter what, the system drags for a couple of seconds...

may I ask why?

firmware issues still?

please don't tell me to update nForce/windows drivers or I'll snap... :D

I also noticed one day that while copying large files (approx. 25Gb) from one SATA disk to another, foobar would hiccup occasionally.

The copy itself was very fast (a few minutes)...

Could it be a Vista64 issue with my x-fi Prelude?

That's a Vista (x64, not sure if it affects x86) issue I believe.

do you know what issue? I installed the MS patch to correct the problem that vista 64 has in which it'd take hours to copy a few megabytes.

It's different from that I believe, but I am sorry I don't know the exact hotfix (or if there even is a hotfix). But I remember Vista has a problem with playing mp3's (or I guess any other codec for that matter) when something else was going (it may not even be your issue to be quite honest). It was something I vaguely remember; I think it was on slashdot.
