most launch games will simply because there is so little to play.

Yeah, that can work. I remeber everyone saying Assassins Creed 1 was repetitve and boring but I was plying one assasination each Sunday and it felt damn fantastic. Never found it repetitive.
As I keep sayin, guys don't forget them screenshots when u get the game. The screenshot thread is dry after the PS4 launch, fellow PS4 owners have dissappointed us big time

Looking at the Giant Bomb quicklook, the game does indeed look wonderful.
EDIT: some things that would have immediately improved the game a lot imho: variation in weapons, and variation in enemies. They should have stolen Uncharted's method of composing enemies from different random combintatinos of clothes, accessories, hair styles etc. Here it seems that all types of enemy just have one single skin.

It's very very hard to do character variations without investing a huge amount of resources (mostly artist hours and runtime memory). It's also a bit of a trial and error process to learn what will register to the audience as variety, and how to make it work as a system. We struggle with this a lot for our extras as well and haven't really found any simple solutions yet.
I imagine Crytek hasn't really had that much experience with designing such a system either, since every previous game they worked on had characters wearing uniforms and that makes things a lot easier...

I was watching the Rev3Games live stream this morning with Sessler and O'Donnell and they absolutely tore into the game, comparing it to The Bouncer. The gameplay is just poorly designed.
FWIW I think Crytek is better than this. It didn't help matters the game started life as a casual Kinect based thing.

Well, it sounds like they scrapped that game and started over completely with a different team. The problem is most likely just time constraints to be a launch title. They needed to have more weapons, more enemy types, maneuvers etc. Just seems like they kept it dead simple to hit launch.
Talk of other games is OT save by direct comparison in terms of controls etc. eg. 'This game plays like GoW' or 'A mix of DMC and FIFA' or whatever people thjink of it.
Your use of the term 'hive mentality' is borderline trolling. You're basically claiming no-one can independently like the game. Discuss individual opinions (on topic) with the individual's having them.
I am going to have to flip a coin on which one to buy next. User reviews are all over the place, from plain trolling, to love it, to hate it. It just looks so darn sexy!I ordered it but my console won't arrive until next week sometime.
I guess I need to find out avg play length, if it is really short I will wait for discounts or grab is used in two months. $49 on Amazon right now BTW.
