RR7 true 1080P rendering?

Have you got 'something' to prove this or it is your opinion? :)
Well...
I do have a PS3.
I do have RR7.
I do have a 1080p TV.
I do notice a difference between 720p and 1080p in RR7.

Not sure how you want me to prove this, I thought it was common knowledge that RR7 ran @ 1080p.

1080i looks good (better than 720p) too.

You better run before Phil and company come in and beat you over the head about 60fps :p

I think maybe he is asking, beyond upscaling, if maybe it is 1080i? Dunno. I think it is labelled a 1080p game though.

I highly doubt they bothered with interlaced rendering.

True  1080p30 and 1080i would be using the same framebuffer. But I think the game is 60fps though, so I wonder if 1080p is as well. I would assume yes.

OT question: How many TV sets and so forth support 1080p60?

Not sure I understand what hes asking. When I press the info button on my tv in RR7 it says 1080p. If I do it in Resistance it says 720p. In the XMB it's back to 1080p, and so fourth.

I think almost all the 1080p (all that I've heard of) support 1080p60. I know mine does and it's a cheap one.

From this photo is clear that the overall quality of RR7's image at 1080P is far better than the same photo at 720P.

The photo of xbox360's game upscaled at 1080P in not so fine and it is not quality distant from the one at 720P.

Do someone know if RR7 work at 1080P or it makes an internal upscale?

Considering PS3 does NOT upscale, the only way to get 1080p output is if the PS3 is actually rendering at that resolution. Which means that RR7 and all the 1080p games on PS3 run at 1080p internally.

While the PS3 has no -useable?- scaler hardware or OS software wrapper for scaling, this does not prevent a game from scaling its renderbuffer to whatever resolution it wants to support, short of memory and bandwidth limitations.

it can be but for example Resistance run at 720P, it is no possible to set 1080I/P resolution. :)

Most likely as 1080i rendering at 60fps would mean deinterlacing would have to be done by bobbing, in which case 1080p output would look rather disappointing compared to 720p and I'd figure we would have heard people complaining about that by now.

I have a few questions.

Does RR7 at 720p represent your TV downscaling or is the PS3 internally rendering RR7 at 720p? If the last half of that question is true, then how is performance vs. 1080p? If the first half is true, then how well does your TV downscales?

Not sure what you mean. I'm pretty sure my tv (HL-S6187W) automatically upscales to 1080p, I'll have to check the manual just to make sure. Through the PS3 OS (not through the game) I can choose to display RR7 @ 720p or 1080p (or 1080i). When I press the info button it will tell me what resolution the game is running at. Performance is pretty much the same with 720p vs 1080p, just resolution difference.

What I found odd though is with NBA 2k7 (another 1080p game). With automatic settings on the ps3 it runs the game at 720p and not 1080p. I have to set it manually in the ps3 as 1080p to get it running at that resolution. With those settings if I dont set it back, other non 1080p games will run at 480p. Kinda annoying to have to do that everytime, not sure what 2k sports did there. :/

If you set 720p in your XMB it renders it internally at 720p.

If you set it to 1080p, it renders internally at 1080p

RR7 720p is not downsampled, and as evidence you get way more obvious aliasing than at 1080p. It would have been nice if there was the option to render at 1080p internally and then downsample to 720p to get some FSAA just for the non 1080p TV owners. That way doing the work of making a 1080p game would benifit more people.

I can only assume it also potentially faster at 720p but I have not played much in that mode. At 1080p it's mostly locked at 60fps anyway. Very occasionally the frame rate dips when you are very near to the particle effects caused by other cars when they are nitrous drifting. That's probably an unfortunate side affect of tons of overdraw + 1080p framebuffer. It does not happen enough to be an issue through most of the game. But when sometimes it is annoying - Especially when driving an insanely fast lvl1 and hitting a corner at 350-400kph.

My tv only supports 720p but the fps is very smooth. I've never noticed it drop below what I perceive as 60 fps. Bad_boy, is 1080p a huge difference or mainly just less aliasing ?
