Rise of the Tomb Raider [XO, XOX, X360, PS4, P4Pro]

I was just going to remind people that the topic isn't really about exclusivity, but then I realised we don't actually have any game to discuss! Nothing has been shown of the game, so we can't talk screenshots or gameplay or anything.

The only relevance I can think of is that TR's popularity seems to have grown since word-of-mouth recommendation for the last game. It didn't have an explosive launch, but it did sell as strongly as many other major AAA titles over time. I reckon there's plenty of interest in the franchise and it'd be worth investing in to do a really good job.

If ports are happening, porting from XB1 to a PC-like architecture (whether PC or PS4) should be trival. PS3 may not get a version unless it's entirely the same engine as the last game and just content is changing + maybe some tweaks. The value in creating a Cell optimised game for 2015 seems lacking.

I bet she buys a new hat in level one
Return of the braided hair maybe? :p

Alternatively, shave her hair like Britney Spears or Miley Cyrus/Justin Bieber. :nope::nope::nope::nope:

bonus Master Chief Helmet add-on "Hair Armour"

I'm imaging something like CD getting in touch with MS to help get the best from XB1 (and 360 eDRAM too). MS perhaps liked what they saw and offered a deal to help development and push the game. It'd make sense and be a good compromise for CD/SE. They don't lose rights to the game or sales on other platforms, and get a better product. Also the timing of U4 would work against them on PS4. So in the balance, a timed exclusive in concert with a developing and marketing push from MS is good for CD/SE, while MS gain the exclusive over Christmas. If we ignore the confused messaging about the exclusive, this fits nicely with the way we know the business works.

***EDITED OUT***

If they succeed well there, a port to other platforms would be highly successful. A win-win scenario indeed, where MS can showcase that X1 is indeed not as weak as the public opinion of it, and (b) CD is given the freedom and revenue stream it requires to port the other versions after the Xbox versions are complete.

That being said, I wish the Crystal Dynamics well! Do great things!

Thanks Dave.

So it's the latter. And the timing seems to land right when the 'first set of DX12' games should be.

Them clearly spending money on the development tends to indicate the former, doesn't it? That'll thrill spend a lot of time and effort making sure it's fully optimized for their system?

Ugh, UC4. Let's stop that spreading with a simplified common view - a similar game to TR will be coming on another platform and is exclusive and next-gen only. That's a competing game for CD to worry about, and they will endeavour to produce the best (looking) game they can, I'm sure. Whether it can or can't match a different game on a different console doesn't need to be talked about.

Right oops, I wrote this wrong

Agreed, my mistake for projecting there, this is about producing the best game that they can.

hm... wonder if we'll see a different take on the old doppelganger theme like some mythical thing that preys on Lara's psychological issues/trauma (instead of being a clone?).

I hope they build her up slowl. Let's see her slowly finding her way in to the real tomb raider. Baby steps, introduce characters that we will learn to love, funny sidekicks that can turn up for in the next games. A mentor that helps her find herself and ends up being the reason why she raids tombs.
A solid storyline with plenty of details to build upon in the future us vital for a strong series.

Posts that should be in the other threads such as fallout from TR exclusivity were cleaned up. This thread is about the game and gameplay as Shifty indicated earlier.
