Nintendo UK has confirmed to Eurogamer this morning that it hasn't stopped production of GameCube hardware and software, and that globally it still supports the console.

"I can confirm that globally, Nintendo is still continuing production of GameCube hardware and GameCube software," a spokesperson for Nintendo UK told us.

The game-giant was speaking in the aftermath of recent comments made by Nintendo America boss Perrin Kaplan, who said the company wasn't producing any more GameCube units or first party games for the platform.

It's good news to us, then, but we can't hold off the ominous feeling that the purple box will be outed probably sooner rather than later.

Goodbye, Gamecube. The second console I ever bought (first was the Atari 2600), and the first since the SNES that I really liked. Man, did I hate 3D TV-based video gaming until I got my hands on a Gamecube and played Super Monkey Ball. I loved everything about the Gamecube except that its library was kinda limited. But that said, I still managed to pick up over 40 games and haven't beat them all, so I guess it wasn't too bad. :)

No, Nintendo stopped producing NES in 1995. 3rd parties have produced NES/SNES like FC Twin.

In Japan they restarted production for a while.

Genesis is still in some form of production to this day if you count the licensed clones.

PS1 may still be produced in Japan, not sure.

It doesn't matter if it was dropped or beat up with a bat because it was a joke...apparently you didn't get it.

I know it was a joke (no one would expect the xbox to survive a 10ft fall) but I'm just filling you in so you get the story behind that picture. It was ripped apart with pliars, not dropped.

On G4TV there's the review show X-play. On a show a couple of years back, they decided to do a survival test on whether PS2, Xbox or GC could survive a fall and a sledge hammer attack. I don't exactly recall but the PS2 died immediately, the Xbox died next and the game cube - after both attacks - still survived.

I wonder whether either system would have played games still after the first test, they only checked to see if they still booted.

I've seen a video of a Gamecube tied to a rope and drug along a gravel road behind a car, to the point of the lid not being able to close properly, but it still loaded up Mario Sunshine right away.
