Why are Nintendo going around saying graphics isn't everything, power isn't everything, and then throw a ton of expensive, high performance components in

Because they'll have more then just more power in their next console. Why are Microsoft going around saying graphics aren't everything, power isn't everything, when they're putting cutting edge expensive hardware in their system?

Isn't Nintendo aiming for niche markets these days? I see them embracing their role as a maker of kids' toys. Those specs don't point to a kids' toy

Why do you always troll and post this kind of crap about Nintendo? You know fine well that Nintendo have said they will not hold back on high end tech. That they will compete graphically with 360 and PS3. But you ignore these facts so you can post the same old crackpot "Nintendo is teh kiddy" garbage

Heck, even if Nintendo is kiddy garbage they still got the best looking graphics out currently available with the Gamecube already.

Why doesn't the Xbox do AA? (I really ain't meaning to troll, I don't post much to the console forum....but I never understood this!)

IMO Nintendo had some of the best graphics this gen. Although most of the multiplatform games are an exception to the rule, some of the games that are specifically for GC, imo outshine anything xbox or PS2 can offer, and they seem to run at very stable framerate too.
Or maybe they are just more polished, their finishing is better and art direction.. don't know, but to my eye they look better.
So, next gen, I strongly believe Nintendo will have at least as capable hardware as competitors. They've never been technoligically behind, expect in handhelds ;)

Metroid Prime(s), RE4, Paper Mario, MGS: Twin Snakes (although not that much graphically different from SOL and SE), F-Zero GX...
IMO they look better on the whole (style, technology, framerate) than anything in same genres on rival consoles.

I've no real experience with watching visuals outside of PS2 as my friends own 'em along with me. One friend has a GC and I've seena couple of games. Super Monkey Ball, Ridge Racers or NFS or something like that. They don't look any better than other systems, neither shows AA, and I think both had framerate drops.

I think all systems are capable of the good, the bad and the ugly. It all depends on whether the programmers make the most of them or not. To draw an line that says 'this systems better than that' doesn't seem applicable. The same will go for next-gen and will depend on the devs to make things look good; the machines specs will be able to carry it off one way or another.

I've learned to take what Nintendo says with a grain of salt. Microsoft and Sony too, but especially Nintendo. That said, I think Gamecube had the potential to kick all kinds of ass - witness the two Rogue Leaders and RE4.

I would have liked MORE games like that - but what we got were mostly cartoon-looking games like Mario, Smash Brothers, Pokemon, the first Zelda... Sorry, but that stuff skews toward a younger audience.

But you ignore these facts so you can post the same old crackpot "Nintendo is teh kiddy" garbage

Nintendo's said for years (and I heard it a lot before the launch of N64 and Gamecube) that their primary audience was kids. Hook the kids, and they'll ask their parents to buy them a Nintendo.

And it's easier to get parents to spend 200 bucks for a kid's toy than 300 - as Nintendo shrewdly recognized with Gamecube.

Now, if Nintendo's changed its stance, fine. But I'll believe it when I see what they company has in store for us with Revolution.

I believe the change has started, particularly with Iwata as president of Nintendo. Also Reggie input aswell, he adds a different perspective than what Nintendo has been use to in the past several years.

We are no longer looking at the same company entirely when there's a face for Nintendo.

I can see these specs being real or a target for what they would like to acheive.

Xbox>Gamecube>PS2 sad but true... :devilish:

But the only thing that really counts is the amount of amazing games and there the situation is completly different with the PS2 leading, the GC a distant second closely followed by the xbox, IMHO.

GC does have a few amazing games that rival anything on ps2 or xbox. Even the turbografx had Bonk and Legendary Axe and they rivaled anything on Genesis. But a few great games dont sell systems, especially now that alot of devs are releasing more games as ps2/xbox only. The average consumer doesnt read game reviews and they see 500 games on the ps2, 400 on xbox and 250 on the GC and they make their choice based on that. Im not saying it's right, just GC hasnt been known for selling lots of 3rd party software on the average and that hurts the console.

Yep, in my book PS2 is clearly number 1, Xbox clear second and Gamecube third, It has only 2 games which I would really like to play, but that's only personal opinion.

If XB's visuals are so great, how come we keep seeing links to fancy graphics and they end up (to my surprise) all being PS2 games?! :p

It's possible, and if true, this next generation just got a whole lot more interesting to me.

As a side note, yes, I'll take one Reggie to seven Perrin Kaplans. Scratch that, even ONE Perrin Kaplan was way too much.

Shifty I LOVE the PS2 along with the PS and PSP. But lets be honest the Xbox can produce the best graphics overall. Put it this way the Xbox can reproduce any game that the PS2 can make, yet the PS2 can't reproduce any game that the Xbox can make. Not with justice anyway.

Just being honest. Like I said I love the PS2 and will never buy a M$ console, but the truth is the truth.
